What are the Most Important Features in an Affiliate Program

I have a successful b2b monthly service (service only in the US currently) that I am considering opening up to affiliates to sell via web and email. What are the things that affiliates most look for in a program? Any feedback is appreciated as I am hoping to build the affiliate program into something that is a win/win from the beginning.

Thanks,

KoobPhenj

    It needs to have upsells.

It needs to earn the affiliates residual income.

Thanks for the advice the service has a few small up-sells and I could probably work in a percentage of the total monthly amount for residual income. I offer multiple contract lengths month to month, 3 month,6 month and a year. Shorter the contract the higher the monthly rate and have hundreds of clients who have been with the service multiple years

    - Good commission rates.. 50% - 75% will attract more affiliates

    - If possible use affiliate referral program, give them tiered commission

    - Allow non paypal users to participate in your affiliate program

A point that may be helpful is price point range from $39.99 up to $600.00 per month. In addition to a set up fee around $50-$100 with initial purchase.

would a flat payout $50-100 per sale plus large upfront commission on initial purchase 50-75% then a smaller recurring monthly commission of say 5%. I could easily build a tiered structure for referred affiliates

Or am I way off on what you are suggesting?

If your affiliates can get paid by their recruits, ie a 2 tier level you will have more incentive to grow viral. If you are doing this to get business it may result in more business then you can handle. Keep sustainable growth in mind. I have a free affiliate website program you could use. This is very subjective and there's no one size fits all. At the fundamental level, affiliate programs need to supply timely payouts, sales copy that converts, and a generous rev share or CPA commission. Upsells, multi-tiers, residuals, and other bells and whistles are secondary to the fundamentals. It also depends on your product or service. Hope this helps answer your question.

Affiliates want a program to be proven to convert/sell (easily). They want tons of marketing materials (because they're lazy...like me). They want stats available, and low threshold of income so that even if they make $10 within 3 months... they can get their money quickly via Paypal. Lol. I laugh but it's true.

All the stuff said so far is true. But the bottom line that trumps them all of what people look for is ... The Conver$ion rate!

Everything else is gravy and window dressing. If it converts ... some things can be overlooked. If it doesn't nothing will.

Here are my personal observations. Its all about the EPCs and commission payouts. If you have high converting offers, and probably weekly payouts, you'll have no issues with affiliates.

A couple high commission upsells in the loop will be an added incentive

Gravity is how many people advertise the product and get sales and commissions

This isn't so: "gravity" is a categorization of ClickBank products only, and it has absolutely nothing at all to do with how people advertise the product and get sales and commissions.

      1. Gravity only applies to clickbank

      2. Even then, Gravity is a HORRIBLE metric to go buy. of the 11 Clickbank products we (Me and my partner) are currently promoting - 8 of them has a gravity of less than 10 (one of them is a 2).

I don't think people are aware of how easy it is to "Game" clickbanks's gravity system.

      anyway,

Here is what I look for personally:

-Products which I receive comm. on backend products
      -preferably lifetime comm.
      -recurring comm.
      -Captivating salespage and copy
-no optin forms on the sales page
      -affiliate support

I do not care if you have swipe files and graphics..I almost never use those anyway.

      Hope this helps,
      Good luck

These are the things I look for:
    1) A high commission payout (>50% for IM niche)
    2) Preferably instant commissions (I don't like to wait for my money)
    3) Whether it's a high converting offer or not: I'll look at earnings per click, refund rates)

I respectfully disagree--- why do affiliate comm. percentages matter???

would you rather have 200% of a $9 product

      or 20% of a $500

Or 100% of a $9 product with no backend

or 50% of a $9 product, with a high converting sales funnel

I believe the actual amount I receive per conversion + how well the offer is converting (and other factors), are much more important than comm. percentages.
