Default Phew! 10 articles written in one day...and I'm just a newbie

Hey guys
While trying out different methods of internet marketing, I decided to create some PLR to sell (20 articles). Note that I'm just a newbie, and I have achieved some interesting results:

Day 1: 1 article done
Day 2: 1 article done
Day 3: 8 articles done
Day 4(today): 10 articles done

While this may not be much of an achievement to the pro writers, it sure was an amazing feat for me. I hope this post will be an inspiration to newbies who want to write PLR.

Here is how I did it: The first 2 days wasn't very productive because I did not have the confidence to write. What I did was to read a lot of articles and write my own. Newbies... do not procrastinate and put your mind to it!

How to cast procrastination aside: There is this rule I learnt somewhere, I have used it for a couple of years initially as a study tip, but it turned out that it applies to internet marketing as well: the 50/10 rule
Focus straight for 50 minutes, and then spend the next 10 minutes doing whatever you want. Repeat till task is done

If a newbie can write 10 articles (all my articles are at least 400 words long!), so can you! Seriously set your mind to it. Also the more you write, the easier it gets. If you spend your first hour writing one article, it doesn't mean that is your actual rate: It is bound to increase. I initially started with one article a day, and now I can write 3 articles an hour through pure focusing. So newbies, don't ever give up! Signing off (and checking back once I come back from my activities)

Nicholas Chen

P.S My 20 articles are a soon to be WSO, so warriors if you have held a PLR WSO before you can get a free review copy, just PM me your email address

Nice. I've always meant to put this into practice, for my own mental health and focus. These types of structured approaches to working, that balance work and relaxing I think are key to making yourself as efficient as you can be.

And you certainly have great results, 10 articles/day is a big milestone for anyone. Congratulations.

When you have a day off or something, check out "Dragon Naturally Speaking" a piece of software that I was always reluctant to use but that has actually helped me out so much.

Excellent job, Nicholas!

You're right - the more you do it, the easier it gets. Great productivity tip too (the 50/10 rule). Regular breaks enhance performance. It's also good to step away from your computer and get some fresh air and physical exercise. Do this and you'll come back stronger.

The trick is to stay focused for your 50 minute sessions. This means eliminating distractions. Let others know that you mean business and don't want to be disturbed. Be disciplined enough to not check your email, Clickbank stats, Paypal account etc. These are time wasters that masquerade as "work". Nothing is more important during your article writing than getting the words from your mind to the page.

Now that you've written 10 articles in a day, you've established a new benchmark for yourself.

I find it easiest to break article writing down into specific tasks and have evolved a system that can work for any quantity or articles deemed manageable. I like to start with the goal of 100 articles. But 10 is a good target too.

Here is the basic process I use:

1. Determine your keywords
2. Decide on 10 topics
3. Shape your rough topic ideas into titles that include keywords (with a strong title, the content ideas often fall into place)
4. Flesh out 3 main points to cover in each article (tips, examples, techniques, mistakes, etc)
5. Write your content
6. Plug in an introduction and conclusion
6. Insert your resource box and modify it to suit the article

Well done! I agree with you. I too learned to write more with only practice.

Presently I write at speeds of about 2400 words per hour. All this happened with writing consistently. It takes time so don't give up because you could not see results immediately.

Hey all
Wow thanks for the replies guys! I really appreciate it. Anyway, here are some more tips I can offer. This works if you already have the knowledge of whatever your content is, and you do not need to research anymore.

Before you write your articles, write the titles of all of them first. Once you have the titles, start writing and when you finish one, start on another. The advantage over doing 1 article and then thinking of the next title before doing the next article is that you dont 'lose momentum'. It's like once you're in a writing frenzy, you dont wanna stop, you just wanna keep on writing and writing till you get your 10 minute break. You wouldn't even wanna pause to think of the titles as that breaks your 'momentum'.

Well done Nicholas!
There are a lot of newbies on the forum who are confused or overwhelmed, plus there are a lot that don't seem to grasp the 'action required' element.

You obviously have, and your simple post of new achievement should be a great example to other newbies - take the principle of this post, and set a goal that you will be able to post a similar achievement post! (doesnt necessarily have to be about article writing!)

Excellent job!

Hey that's great going Nicholas. You're right to just go for it - when you take action you get things done - and then you surprise yourself at how much you can get done the more you do.

Like everything in life, practice makes perfect but practice also makes efficient!

Hi Nicholas,
Excellent work! Thank you for sharing both your achievements and method.
It is very important to know how to balance between focus and relaxation.
Many of us tend to feel guilty when they take time to relax; even it is only 10 minutes. The tendency is to think that we're wasting precious time that could be utilized for work.
The thing is that sometime we don't realize that we need to relax in order to be more focused and get things done more efficiently. This I think is the most important lesson, when you have your own business.
Thanks for the information and inspiration.
Have a good luck with your articles.

Best regards,
Vered

Congrats Nicholas!

good tip on the 50/10 rule. I have heard a variation of that rule which works better for me. It recommends to focus a minimum of 2 hours on a project. This works better for me because once I get focused, 50 minutes or 1 hour is nothing. 2 hours works better for me. Important is to focus 100%. So no email, no chat, no phone, no distraction of any kind.

No distractions is key!

Even though I can, I prefer not to work from home, just too many things that can distract me! A coffee shop is much better or a public library, though that's a bit to claustrophic for me.

Btw, I don't even write close to 2000 words an hour, but I don't have to either.

I usually write between 1500-2000 words a day and that's usually a days wage. Once you get a hang of the game, look into specialising in a certain niche that you know a lot about. Everyone wins from that, you AND your clients. If you are just a somewhat decent writer, as I'm sure you are or will be, then don't waste your time writing SEO fodder.

You are right spot on. I do exactly the same way . I had evolved my writing process with trial and error and finally landed this way.

I get ideas even before I put titles in the document. As the titles pile up, someday, I take the time to fill those articles in one go. Or two goes

excellent post - I remember when I used to struggle for over 2 hours and beyond trying to write 1 article - I guess I wanted it too perfect at the time - doesn't have to be.

Good job there. So nice to hear you say that. Once I used to write 8-6 articles a day, but than all of a sudden there was a certain melt down in my thinking and I couldn't do more than 3-4. So, do not let that happen to you.

ONe thing I want to add for the benefit of everyone who tries article marketing is this:
don't try multiple article directories (even with different articles for each one)
try only popular ones like ezinearticles.com, articlesnatch.com and articlebase.com

Make sure that those directories are highly popular (PR of 5 or higher) and also put relevant article links for each of the articles on their sites. THat implies your article too will get automatic backlinks from the same site. This most likely gives a high page rank to the articles which passes it to your site and also keeps getting organic traffic from search engines that keep sending referral traffic to your site regularly.

For example, I tried this and the same article of mine in the three popular article directories got their own page rank .

Code:
ezinearticles page rank of 2
ezinearticles.com/?Make-Success-in-Stock-Trading-With-Next-Best-Bets&id=2451679

articlesnatch page rank of 0
articlesnatch.com/Article/Make-Success-in-Stock-Trading-with-Next-Best-Bets/630505

articlebase page rank of 2
articlesbase.com/day-trading-articles/make-success-in-stock-trading-with-next-best-bets-956977.html
The cool thing here is that it happened as I expected. But need to do more of these before my site can take offff..
