Someone that is buying something from me is insisting that the pay via Paypal or Western union. I do not think that Paypal is the most secure method of payment since it is a large amount of money, neither do I think Western Union is a secure method.

What method of Payment do you think is the most secure? I insist to them that the transaction be made via Escrow as a Electronic cheque or a international wire transfer.
What do you think I should do?

    Follow your gut!

Have had a great experience with escrow.com when we sold a site for a few pretty pennies, last year.

Everything is set out in stages, and honestly it protects you both. As long as you step up and offer to cover the cost, it is all up-side for them.

PayPal is clearly not secure or sensible for the vendor, for your price-range.

As far as I know, Western Union is (but it's far more expensive, and much more "cumbersome" than a bank transfer).

Yah just go with your gut if it's telling you to be careful you may be right. One thing that you can do is the other party to send you an invoice through paypal that way if something happens you can dispute it and paypal will probably give you your money back

What part of the OP's post made you imagine that he's the buyer? He's the seller. The first sentence starts with the words "Someone that is buying something from me ..."

PayPal is used by almost everyone these days. As for the processor with the best security measures, I'm not sure.

Large amounts of money dont work well with PayPal cuz they could freeze your account or deem your account as 'suspicious'.

I don't know about electronic check, but insist on escrow or no dice. Paypal > BOOM > dispute. Let escrow take care of the method of payment. That's what they do to protect both parties. Sounds fishy to me and it should raise a red flag to you that he doesn't want to use escrow.

I could see a problem with Paypal but not with Western Union. You'll have
to get paid with Western Union before you send the item and there is no
possibility of dispute so you are protected especially if it's a service.

There have been reports of Western Union scams, too. I think as a seller you need to decide what payment method you require BEFORE you sell....state that WHEN you sell...and stick to it.

There is no logical reason a buyer would not be willing to use escrow for a $15k payment because it protects him, too.

      Exactly so.

I'm having difficulty understanding why so many people are still urging "escrow" on Nate, here, when the buyer has offered to use Western Union. (Maybe they're all people who have never actually used Western Union?). Western Union protects Nate, not the buyer.

What country is he from? If he is from the U.S, then there should be no reason to use other payment options. Either way protect yourself.

Years ago, I sold a site to someone in China, and walked across the street to the ATM to take out the cash before I replied to him on Skype

the buyer can claim they have not got the goods to Pay Pal and the payment will be reversed without reference to you . I have seen reports of this a lot, particularly for technology purchases

As it is a big amount, you need to take security of the money first. you did not mentioned about the amount of money. actually we are use Paypal with about $1000 without any problem. I hope before dealing, you need to select the security first. Thanks.

You'll want the money to go into escrow to be held until the other person has the item you are selling or vice versa. This will protect both of you. Paypal might reverse the money on some transactions so you might be unprotected if you're dealing with a digital product that you can't reclaim.

PayPal is the most widely used method to buy and sell, but it is not very safe for some cases. First of all, not much protection the seller, because if the buyer will open a dispute saying he has not received the item, etc. .. paypal will block the funds you have available, or sends you under until you have reached a to block.

Second thing take a long time to do the investigation if something is wrong, also if you get a lot of money, it can happen that they block the account for the controls. In short, if something does not like can block your account and your money without being able to do anything.

Paypal is good to sell or buy services that who do not have a very high cost, if you have any doubts, do not use paypal, because if something happens and they have doubts, you can not demonstrate how things really went anyway and they will not listen to you, if they want, they'll block your account and your money.

You're on the right track of asking to do a different method of payment. Pay Pal is good for under $50.00 and western union I would just forget it.
    Follow your gut.
