Getting back in the game - Any advice?

I have involved in affiliate marketing for about 6 or 7 years, but over the last 3 years I've really let it sit on the sidelines. I still earn some income from the sites I have, but don't do much work on them outside of the occasional new post and occasional SENuke campaign. Quite frankly, I've been downright lazy with it!

In the past when I was more actively involved I relied mainly on article marketing and used a number of submission tools. Also used linkvana and one other network (which was great but went under - can't remember the name now) for blog links. I created new content fairly frequently. I was getting good search engine traffic from what was a relatively simple strategy.

I would love to hear what people think is the current state of affairs. Is article marketing still worthwhile and if so, which submission tool(s) are working. Any other networks or SEO tools that are "must haves"?

I suspect much has remained the same in terms of driving SE traffic, however I'm sure there are some changes that have taken place as well. I realize I can scan through the forum but I also know I'll get information overload if I start reading through so many threads, so I would love to hear people's thoughts. Any comments would be great!

A lot has changed! Google updates, the rise of social media, video marketing, even people have changed. They have too many choices and too little time. You need to get their attention and you have about 7 seconds to do it.

I wouldn't rely on SE traffic if I were you. I suggest you focus on social media at this point. There are many platforms to choose from, so I think it's safe to say that researching your audience comes first. Choosing a platform comes second and setting up a new site/blog/youtube channel, etc. comes last.

    Good Luck!

If you want to create a sustainable business then the best thing for you to do would be to look at what was working back in the day and what is still working today. That way you know you'll have a business model you can sustain over the years.

Hint: Building lists and selling products that solve problems.

Some tried and true methods are totally still working. Namely article marketing. But how you get the most bang for your buck with that has changed. As already mentioned, social media is huge. Not only Facebook, but authority sites such as LinkedIn and Slideshare get SURPRISING amounts of targeted traffic.

One method I really like is syndication. Create an article, maybe even spin a powerpoint of it as well. Convert the article to PDF ensuring any links remain active. Submit that and the powerpoint to slideshare because that gives the content major credibility. From there, you can share VIA slideshare to facebook and linkedin. Works like a beast.

All that said, my favourite method of affiliate marketing these days is through listbuilding and email marketing. But, there are plenty of ways to skin a cat!

If you create a site that people want to read, share and come back to then you have a business that can grow. To much rubbish out there with the usual IM blog with desperate sign up boxes everywhere trying to flog any old eBook crap.

Create something people want to visit and share. I know this is the warriorforum and building so called products (eBooks not worth a penny ion my opinion) and lists (usually people with little to no money) is all the rage I would actually take a step back and see how true businesses work such as sites like upworthy and distractify as great examples.

Those sites build lists sure they do, but they don't try to sell them crap at every opportunity, instead they focus on giving the public what they want and that is great engaging content while making a pretty penny in advertising!

There main methods which is what works now is social media syndication. Viral stories, posts and pictures. So the real question is how to you plan to make money and in what niche?

I agree with WillR, I think you gotta look at what was making you cash-money in the past and go straight to that. I think it's the quickest win, and it's quicker learning how to up-date things for nowadays than to go learn a new method.

    And lists man, gotta be.

Hi leaping horse. Welcome back. One of the biggest things right now is publishing your own Kindle books. Inside each book you will put a thank you and freebie which of course sends visitors to your squeeze page. There are many Kindle WSOs. Check out List Building Breakthrough by Bryan Harkins ( not an affiliate). Good luck

Not even close. If you plan on using SEO (I suggest you don't) you better educate yourself on what is really going on.

Article and SEO in my view are a waste of time.

The problem these days is that too many experts and gurus who teach these useless techniques that just make their students FAIL.

One of my mentors online taught me that it takes money to make money and he was right about that.

You have to invest money for ads to make a good amount of sales. Too many newbies just do FREE marketing and waste their time cause most of the time, they get NO RESULTS and quit fast.

SEO is not dead as long as you know what you do! SEO takes time..that is the problem..most newbie want to get rich next day..that is the problem. Even with pay ads is a bigger risk then with SEO. I see you are in a journey for post hunting.
