Unauthorized use of credit card- Quick Question

Someone who has purchased a product from me through Paypal and have asked for a refund because they say that is was an unauthorized use of their credit card. Every bit of contact information that was supplied to Paypal and emailed to me by Ejunkie, who handles my payments and downloads, is the exact same as it was when the purchase was made.

My question is- would you try and fight this or would you just go ahead and give the person a refund? I do have a refund policy, but this person is saying unauthorized use of card and is not claiming anything is wrong with the product, unsatisfied, etc.

The person who has filed this claim says it was an unauthorized use of credit card has not tried to contact me in any other way except through a dispute through paypal. They have not emailed, they have not submitted support ticket, nothing. Just filed a claim with Paypal.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Ugly, but I would give a refund just to avoid problems. I would also ban that person from buying from me again.

How would I go about banning the person from buying from me again? Thanks in advance.

I have had this several times, I sent the logs of E-junkie and everything else to PayPal but they can't do anything about this kind of theft because they don't support selling digital products.

It's possible it could've really been an unauthorized use of their card, it's so hard to say. Maybe one of their kids or a "friend" who had access (albeit unauthorized) to their mailing & email addresses & credit card # really did order and download the product, and the card owner saw a Paypal charge on their bill a month later and disputed it directly with Paypal because they barely even know what Paypal is, let alone what was actually ordered and from whom.

Or maybe they disputed it directly with their credit card company (which is what I did the one time I was hit by identity theft), who in turn disputed it with Paypal so the card company wouldn't have to eat the charge... I'm not sure how a progression like that would appear to the seller of the product -- would it be obvious that it was happening due to a chargeback from the credit card company if Paypal was in between the credit card company and the seller? Don't know, I haven't experienced that directly.

Or it could just be a case of fraud.

I'll just refund them and be done with it. Thanks for your replies.

If they contacted Paypal about it and lodged a complaint, I wouldn't refund them myself - but would let the process run through Paypal. PP will likely reverse the transaction but I'd let the person wait for that.
