How to market a new forum

I have been running a decent small forum for quite sometime about my hobby. It does have a huge potential user base but there is also a lot of competition. Unlike sites where we only have visitors and a couple of llikes the forum needs active user base. Which I really need.

Now normally a forum attached to products works for the particular product but if you are running a forum for say model airplanes how do you get active members?

Any tips would be much appreciated. Even if its super obvious I may not have tried it.

Thanks a lot.

You need to "seed" your forum so that your active users and potential users actually have stuff to talk about. Do a search for forum seeding. I hope that helps.

Spend time investing your time and money into looking at the things your potential members will want to talk about. Create threads from the admin to get the conversation going. Create debates, make polls, and do all kinds of a ar keting tactics to get every possible member involved.

Marketing your forum through other forums can help a lot, you can also look for voluntary moderators to help you maintain the forum and keep it active, running forum contents can also motivate current users to post. Forums are not easy to become successful and they need dedication.

Successful forums have one major factor behind their success... A passionate group of users. Getting users is the easy part. Getting them to come back is the hard part. Before you even begin to spend a dime on marketing your forum... Ask yourself if the niche you are in is going to be around 5-10 years from now? Will the users be passionate enough to stick around?

Market it through the warrior forum. You will get an active membership. Release some of the products as wsos here and also tell us about the forum in those wsos

I've seen a new forum started in an unrelated field by advertising it in youtube videos. Must be a high volume of popular high quality videos thou.

    Email marketing is best.

We helped a guy here in OZ take his crappy little one man band forum to over 4 employees and 1 million hits a month. We did this through email marketing, it works.

How often are you posting on related forums? These related forums will allow you to build a reputation in the niche/industry so that forum members on other sites begin to trust your opinion. When allowed, use a signature line. If someone is interested in other things you have to say they will click on the signature line to find out more.

I advice you to go to adminzone. com or admintalk.com. Those are the place where forum owners discuss it. You will definitely learn from them. From driving traffic, seo, getting members and other stuff. It's a discussion board especially for forum owners.

    Hope that helps.

    1) You can try to network/promote with brick and mortar places that also support your very distinctive niche. In the case of model airplanes... there are only a few places (classic toy stores, some air clubs, etc) that you can purchases these items. If you can promote in the store, or even better with each purchase that would help get the word out about your forum. Additionally, if you contact sellers on Amazon and Ebay and provide them with info about the forum to add with the product, comment on their products with info about the forum, etc. Getting as many people in your niche to know about the forum is often times the first steps to getting people to stay and be active...

    2) but make sure you have enough content, areas of conversation, etc to keep them involved --

    3) find ways to team up with other businesses to offer discounts, highlight events, etc

    Hello,
    My advice:
Promote your forum to other famous forums and let the new users to put their link in signature after 5 opinions for example. Then soon you will add new users.

Try content marketing to market your forum. Write posts that will attract the kind of users that you want to sign up for your forum. You might set up a blog to host these content or look for guest posting opportunities.
