Here's Top Internet Marketing Trends 0f 2014 so far ... Agree or Disagree?

According to Forbes, here's the top 7 online marketing trends of 2014. Agree or Disagree. I personally think they should have added "Niche Marketing" but maybe I'm a little biased

What do you think they could have added for an 8th one?

Hardly hear the narration, the music background is too loud.
Niche marketing is the topic (the "WHAT"), what mentioned on the video is more on "HOW".
    Just my 2 cents!

Well I definitely agree with Mobile being important. I see lots of engagement with mobile, but seldom see any sales coming from mobile. I also think that the shorter sales pitches are now working better than the long pitch in the lower priced areas. The long pitch is still the winner for higher priced products.

There was one media not even touched on and it in my opinion is still the strongest and safest long term approach out there and that's email. I firmly believe if you don't have a list, you're not really in online business.

I would have liked to have seen this presentation in printed format with some verifiable facts to back it up, though.

Maybe because they see email as a standard practice (or a given) instead of a current trend. (Just a hunch).

  • 1. Content for your ideal customer.

This is perennial, not a trend.

    2. Social media diversity.

Definitely. I branched out into LinkedIn in 2014 and have started using other sites and forums.

    3. Visual is king.

Hell yeah. I'm behind this 100%. I'm trying to get as many of my clients as possible to convert over to illustrated VSLs because frankly they straight up convert better than text-only.

    4. Less is more.

Disagree. At least in the IM space. Long form still converts better.

    5. Mobile is a must.

    Definitely.

    6. Ad-retargeting will get even better.

Yeah, this is definitely true. Superior ad-retargeting is pretty much what's been fueling Facebook's insane growth in recent years, that and mobile ads.

    7. SEO and social signals will become even more intertwined.

Don't really know enough to comment.

I cannot disagree with anything said in the video.

Content has always been king simply because our customers own self-interest.

What I think is changing is that customers have less time to absorb so much more advertising. Therefore having a visual cue helps to cut through clutter, but that is not the end of the story. For visual media to truly work, I believe that it must give more detail.

The detail may be a form of a link to a video or a webpage.

The trend to mobile, I believe will gather pace with the introduction of 4G. 4G will enable more customer friendly content to be delivered. In particular audio content as it will not be bound by the limits of the mobile phone screen. In fact I see audio and speech recognition as being major drivers for the future of phones and the mobile web.
