The Truth About Abs- Case Study

Hey,

I don't think there are many of us that have spent longer than a month researching internet marketing and not come across the phenomenal success of The Truth About 6 Pack Abs as an ebook course.

I thought it would be a good exercise to analyse why that worked so well. I also find that the best way to learn something.

From my observations he was one of the first people to give huge payouts to affiliates to get people to buy in to the brand and then upsell. The affiliate sales were more of a loss leader than anything. His course is around the $40 mark and gives 75% away to affiliates (was one of the first people to do that) so really not making much per affiliate sale (unless he sells hundreds of thousands a month... which he probably does).

So if that is the case, why is the product so good? It taps into a huge market, which is good. But there are a million other people going after the fitness niche.

That must mean he has a stand out looking product with tons of unique information you can't get anywhere else... mmm not so much. I think the website is extremely basic looking and quite dated and the information in the course is nothing I havent read about anywhere else.

I thought it would be interesting to analyse, or have i lost it and gone total IM geek?

Truth About Abs became a success because it targeted not the idea of just trying to lose weight and trying to get fit......but actually getting the one thing almost every person wants.....ABS.

There are TONS of products about losing weight and losing fat, but this focuses primarily on getting healthier to get the coveted abs. If you can target a market through a sub-niche, then you've got it.

its killer stuff. Because if you get your niche wrong, and that is step 1 to online success, you get it wrong and the rest is doomed.

We do about $10k a month online, and we can say its all in teh niche, you must spend time picking a niche, the right one, and this dude did his research well. That is why he makes a killing. So there is a lesson here for all. Make sure you niche is right before you do anything else, or you are bound to fail.

I mean I have seen people go into niches like 'how to knit a sweater for your cat' or something like that. LOL. u get my drift, but how many people 1 have a cat, and want a sweater in the world. Maybe 15 or so. ? LOL right?

But with the abs niche, everyone has abs, even FAT ASS people. They have them.

And almost everyone wants abs. I mean I do? Do you? so you see where this goes. Its a killer market, and he just honed into the right subniche. Very smart, and he is being rewarded handsomely.

Thats because your thread title advertises a case study but your post wasnt a case study.

So many, myself included, have jumped from offer to
offer to offer. Mike stuck with one thing.
Thats what stuck out to me as well. He spent 2 years promoting 1 product before it took off.

He didnt do research and pick a niche. He was a trainer and people would always ask him how to get ripped 6 pack abs. Everyone was already telling him exactly what they wanted. He didnt sit down and choose a niche.

The dude is a massive media buyer, the Tim Ferriss article is very, very good (... free traffic, I don't think so)!

      BIG AL is right.

If you think these big marketers use FREE traffic and make Millions each year, you are WRONG!

They are big paid ads, they spend lots, but make back even more.

PAID ADS is where the big bucks is. using free traffic all you have is a money spinner. That is what novices do.

So if you want a full time business, i guess you know what to do. FREE? or PAID ...right?

I'm not aware of any other offers out there from him and
he certainly could have capitalized on teaching how he
    done it.

Interesting. I used to promote Mike's program on
the Google content network when it was still
      allowed.

I simply used a masked domain to redirect traffic
directly to the sales page. This was even before
      he had a VSL.

I would average one sale for every 250 visitors
which is not bad because it was totally cold
traffic. Not only that, the traffic was cheap!

I could usually double my money.

Mike was very helpful and worked with me
personally. He used to do 500-600 a sales DAY
himself there on top of all the affiliate
      commissions.

I won't lie... I never came anywhere near to that
but I did do around $1200 a month profit (after ad
      costs).

When you have that kind of traffic you can split
test with 1000's of sales and get really accurate
data. He really thinks big and outside of the box.

The ad I used went something like:

1 Trick to Lose My Belly
I could never lose my belly fat
until I learned this 1 unique trick.

Now you see those ads everywhere.

Once Google started becoming more strict he
started looking into media buys and renting lists.
A lot of his affiliates also have large lists.

It's the kind of offer that appeals to general
public because it's so broad. Most people want to
lose belly fat and get into shape.

He also is an affiliate himself and just acquired
      Paleo Hacks (another fitness product).

So yeah, the guy definitely knows his stuff!

The 'Truth About Abs' success is one of those 'right place at the right time' type situations.

The same way two identical videos can be put online, one goes viral and the other one doesn't.

Many have tried to recreate their success but very few have managed to.

Their success is luck + lots of traffic.

I am by no means an IM guru or expert.. but I do know this about my experience...

      Free traffic = NO SALES

Paid Traffic + Simple Catchy Ad = SALES

so, guess what I am going to focus my Business on?

Pay for traffic, make sure your niche is large enough to sustain the offer, and go for it!!

      Thanks!

Say this is true, which it certainly is not, what would be the benefit of building a massive pinterest following?

Keep in my mind it's not just that frontend sale where he makes his money.

He surely has a funnel that increases his earnings by quite a lot, I'm sure.

It targets the ideal prospect perfectly through a badass VSL.

It doesn't focus on everyone in the fitness niche...

Just one specific person with a pressing problem and calls them out repeatedly.
