Ebook Pictures....what are the limits

Hi, I plan on writting an ebook in the internet marketing niche. I will be talking about social media marketing and I plan on using step by step screenshots and logo images on the specific site (ie: youtube) in order to make the ebook more interactive. Just wondering is there anyway you can get in trouble for copyright infringement of using screenshots or other logos? I asked because I seen some marketers use some in their ebooks. So I just wasnt sure. I dont want any problems down the line.

Yes, most definitely, be very careful. Screenshots and logos that are used without permission could constitute trademark and tradename infringement. This is different than copyright infringement.

Just because others have used images illegally and gotten away with it (so far at least) is no excuse or license for you to do the same.

A good practice regarding images - either have a license to use the image in hand, or written permission from the owner specifically giving you permission to use his/her property.

    The best to you,

    Steve

I agree with SteveB be very careful when it comes to using Logos. It is always best to consult with an attorney on these matters. Taking advice from an online marketing forum, concerning legal matters could prove to be very costly.

Hi calidream217, I'm not a senior member but I know that copyright infringement is a very serious topic and a warning can be expensive .
Also there are lawyers specialised on copyright infringement and some of them run a software that finds out websites and check if there are some "weak spots" (everybody wants to make money).

As Steve said, you are safe if you use google's advanced search function and search for images that are allowed for commercial usage and then give proper credit.

You just don't post any photos if you don't want to. You really don't need to in your eBook. You should instead use screenshots if you want to

If you like a particular image do a capture and pay someone on Fiverr to re-create it.

Save time & money because the hassle of a copyright infringement isn't worth it.

    Good luck!

You may be able to use Youtube icons and logos in your publication. Here are some guidelines set out by Youtube.

Typically, this applies to website and blog owners but this might also go for your ebook.
