You can check the estimated value at Estibot and look for sales of similar sounding names.

I, for one, would be very careful about spending that much money on a domain. Of course, I have no idea what the domain name is at this point.

Many marketers are full of great ideas and have purchased at least 10 domains they have done absolutely nothing with.

Good luck either way, I hope you make the right choice.

Make sure you have a plan what you are going to do with the domain so you don't lose that money.

Respectfully, as a general principle, you simply don't know nearly enough about the domaining business to be buying domains for $450+.

You shouldn't be choosing which domains to buy by looking at places like GoDaddy auctions. You should start in a completely different way: by identifying types of domains which you know you can market easily, and by developing the skills to do so. What any domain is worth to you depends on your own skills at identifying, approaching and negotiating with the people to whom that domain is potentially worth more than reg-fee because of the nature of their own businesses. It will help you to re-think your current perception that domain-names have some kind of "objective value" and that if you buy them in an auction for less than that, you're going to make a profit from them. That isn't how the domaining business works. At all.

I'm not trying to criticise you in any way; simply to point out that (although in any business which involves buying and selling things without yourself adding value to them, one obviously wants to "buy low and sell high"), in this case - contrary to the superficial appearances - adding value (albeit to the process rather than to the domain-name itself) is actually an integral part of the business, and the value you add comes in the form of your own marketing skills, which need to be better than those of the people from whom you buy the domain-names in the first place. And quite a significant part of those skills actually applies to identifying "what to buy".

      .
Exactly! If you can't value a domain, you shouldn't be spending $450 on buying it!

Persoanlly, I know a little more about domains than an average Joe! Whether it's buying expired domain or valuating them, i've learned about it from trial and error.

      My tips,

      - Before buying a domain, search the keywords in the domain in Google and see if people are competing in ad spaces. NewYorkElectricians would probably have alot of ads while NewYorkKid would have none. This should give you an indication if the domain is worth anything.

      - Search the keywords in Google's Keyword Planner and see how many EXACT Searches does the term get. anything above 2K is good.

      - Search Google Keyword Planner for the keywords and take a look at SUGGESTED BID ! this shows how much people would need to pay/paying for the keyword. If no one's paying for it, you won't sell the domain.

      - Search Google for the keywords and see if the service is being offered by websites, take a look at their domain and see if yours could be an improvement to it. Are there vendors listed on YelloPages who could be potential customers?

      - Get an automatic appraisal from "Valuate.com" ! Valuate lets you appraise 4-5 domains daily for free.
Their appraisal is the cost you could get from Resellers (other domainers) - not End Users (EU always pay more). BUT, sometime, stupid domain get appraised at more than $1K, so check again with the above methods to see it's real potential.

These are some of the integral points to keep in mind when you value a domain before buying. Ofcourse there are more methods, but these should do it for you for now.

General Domain Value Formula : (Exact Searches) x (CPC)

Good Luck in your Endeavors !

      Regards,
      Daniyal

agree with alexa. You need to have more details about the domain before buying it. Is there already traffic generated that you could leverage on, if you are planning to work on the domain?
