Any Hotmail experts here?

I am not sure where this should be but I need some help.
I have a friend who is having hotmail troubles.
Microsoft are useless. They don't have phone support for Hotmail.
The issue is logging in.
It says for protection they need to send a code.
They ask for an email to send it to.
I tried to use another email I have and that helped for the first time.
But now I get an email saying they are cancelling that account and transferring it to my email.
However, the same security question appears when trying to log into the hotmail account.

I did find a p[age that took me to a phone verification and that let me in...
BUT when trying to log in the old way, it still wouldn't.

ANY suggestions gratefully received.
I did try the community section and also their chat but the chat screen doesn't work.

  • It happens all the time but if you click to the part I use this device regularly, don't ask for a code.

    I think so.

    It is such a pain

    I had that before.

It doesn't say "I use this device regularly" and so I don't know what else to do.

Once you've logged in, in the security settings somewhere, there is an option to prevent asking for the code every time.

I don't know how feasible this is, but I'd personally try and find a program that's always logged in and use that to manage an online email account. For example Mail on a Mac, or Outlook on a Windows. (I actually only ever read and write emails on my iPhone and never on a computer).

I believe every time you log in on a computer, it creates a chance for your email to hacked by spammers to email everyone you know. My Yahoo for example used to be hacked quite a lot and so did my brothers Hotmail account.

As a result, we've now switched to using a program in which we're constantly logged in and haven't had any more issues.

I am going to suggest that she use Gmail because it is much simpler than Hotmail and doesn't have the same s### you have to go through in Hotmail.
Her computer doesn't let her stay logged in for some stupid reason and as it is not mine, I can't fiddle too much.

On the one occasion today that we did get in, I told her to write down all her email addresses and delete all emails. That is in case we do set up a new email address and then she can simply email everyone and tell them.

I personally have a gmail account as a backup but my main account is the provider of my internet service and I don't have trouble with it.

Another tip is that you can actually manage one email account from another.

For example, you could setup a gmail account and then use the hotmail address from within that.

At Uni, we set this up for our dedicated uni email address which we had to email lecturers from. Basically, all your hotmail and gmail emails can go through to the gmail account.

When writing an email, you can then select which email address to send the email from.

That way, you could technically have a gmail or yahoo account and never actually use the new email address.

Setting up Outlook would be the easiest way to manage the email though. You just download it and then you'll always stay logged in.

I had an issue with Hotmail a few years ago. Someone hacked my account and I got locked out. I tried so many times online to get my account reinstated but I none of the verification information I was entering seemed to work. I tried every possible way to contact them and just kept getting the same templated responses. But I had to get this email account back because it had years and years of important emails inside it.

So I found out who the CEO of Hotmail/Ninemsn Australia was and wrote her a letter and sent it off. Later that week I had a call back from her office telling me that a person is looking into the situation personally for me and would contact me soon. I then got a personal email from someone and they went out of their way to help me get the issue sorted.

So if all else fails, just go straight to the top. Had the same experience with Telstra/Bigpond. Took weeks trying to sort out some billing issues. Instead went straight to the top and had it resolved very quickly.

  • Gmail is more faster and easier than Hotmail! maybe you should tell him to use Gmail instead of his Hotmail account
