Article Directories Worthless?

I remember when Ezinearticles was the place to post your articles. Now days i rarely see any top results for any article directories. Does anyone still use article directories or are they just worthless?

Thanks

Pretty much worthless for ranking a website. At one time I had my whole online business based on article marketing in article directories. I do not even submit to them anymore. You can do a search here in the forum for some good threads on article marketing full of some good tips.

Article sites are not as useful as they were before Panda. They got hit really hard. Now it's been announced that Squidoo and HubPages are combining.

It's still possible to get some traffic, but focus on content on your own sites and blogs.

Definitely what works now in terms of ranking is quality content on self hosted sites and YouTube...
I guess some people still visit article directories, so you might get some exposure but it will probably not be a game changer for you.
    Good luck

Yeah at one point they were both good for links and also ranking the actual articles. Now they're quite useless for both. If you're trying to get actual eyeballs on your articles I would suggest looking for guest posting opportunities instead.

They are more or less useless for link juice. You can definitely still do wonders with sales with them if you use them properly. Most people never both to take the time nowadays.

    Hi
If the articles are accepting in top 10 articles sites means it is worth, If the article site which is not having good PR is not worthy.

    This is just nonsense.

Page ranks have absolutely nothing at all to do with the value of article directories.

And the page ranks you're thinking of are only the page ranks of the directories' own home pages anyway: that isn't even where your articles are published. Articles in directories are published on their own, newly-formed, PR-0 pages, regardless of the page rank of the directory's own home page.

Websites don't "have page ranks". Only pages have page ranks.

That's because you're thinking of "top results" in terms of Google's SERP's, and the truth is that "rankings" have never had anything to do with how article directories work, and what article marketers are using them for.

The fact that articles in EZA (normally) no longer rank well is a good thing for article marketers.

For those of us using EZA for the purpose for which it's there, that actually makes it easier and better for us.

Many successful article marketers are still using them.

Whether they're worthless or not, to you, depends on what you're trying to use them for.

If you're trying to use them for SEO purposes, or to generate potential customer traffic from the article directory to your site, then yes: they're definitely going to be close-to-worthless to you.

But trying to use them for those purposes was only ever based on a fundamental misunderstanding about what they are, and how they're supposed to work.

That isn't "article marketing" at all. It's only "article directory marketing", at best (and that's a total waste of time).

Posts #2 and #6 of this thread explain in detail what directories are actually there for (and why some of us are using them with better results now than we were a few years ago): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5068872

When you post article with backlinks on article directories, it is posted on a new page which is PR N/A. I won't write a 500 word unique HQ article just to get a backlink from PR N/A page.

You're right - and then at the next page rank update, it eventually becomes PR-0 - still not exactly a "plus"!

No, indeed not. But nobody who understands how article directories work is ever giving them any unique content. There would be no sense at all in doing that, for all the reasons explained throughout this little thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...marketing.html

Using article directory marketing to generate traffic is much less useless as I would say.

However, "article marketing" still works whereby you can just be a guest writer for some popular blogs in your niche, etc.

  • Submitting articles to article directories does bring in a little bit of traffic to your website however it won't bring as much traffic as it use to. But that doesn't mean you should quit using article marketing as a method to drive traffic to your website. The trick is to use multiple methods in order to drive traffic to your website and to not just use one singular method.

For instance If you have an interesting article but don't want to use article marketing then find a blog within a similar niche to your website with a lot of traffic and a good page rank and see if you can post the article on there blog. You can make comments on similar blog posts, submit video's online, use social marketing, bookmark your website on social networking websites, use solo ads, ad swaps and offer a free newsletter/ebook with advice and capture leads using an autoresponder so that you can bring back some of your visitors to your website using email marketing.

As someone who used to do quite a bit of article marketing I thought I'd revisit some of the sites and check my stats and am pleased to see that some of my articles are still getting views. So they are generating traffic.

Is it still worth doing to generate traffic? For me no, because I prefer a more direct approach to generating traffic now.

As for backlinks, well as they are self generated backlinks, then today they are pretty much useless.

This is nonsense. It isn't "a method of driving traffic" at all, let alone a "conventional" one.

On the contrary: those Google updates have actually increased the value of EZA submission to article marketers, because we're now able to submit copies there without the former risks of those copies of our articles ever being found by the search-engine traffic that we'd much rather have finding the copy originally published and indexed on our own sites, so that we don't lose a high proportion of that traffic as we used to.

Sorry for the contentious tone, but your whole perspective, and all your information, here, really are totally mistaken.

Edited to add: and by the way, not only is your post nonsense, but it was even nonsense when it was originally published elsewhere in June 2013 on the blog from which you stole it before pasting it in here. You really should steal from better informed and more reliable sources, that don't throw up such a huge red flag and make people instinctively think "Who actually wrote this crap, anyway?", if you hope to get away with it!

Like most I stopped using them a while ago. Even when my articles were taken and used elsewhere my links were removed so what's the point. I go social in the broadest context now

I am just very grateful do be on a forum where very successful article marketers are willing to drop gold nuggets to all who would listen. This thread would actually be disastrous if it wasn't for the almost Zen like patience of Alexa to answer these questions over and over again. It used to be that many successful article marketers would be right here backing up and making sure people didn't make critical mistakes in their business.

Its going to be a sad day when like many others Alexa's patience runs out and the short sighted lead the blind.

    Yep, useless.

But people continue to recommend submitting articles to article directories for some reason. It's going to take awhile for everyone to realize that article directories provide absolutely no value to your business. Unless, you're passively trying to collect article syndication buddies, in which case, it still takes quite awhile.

I suggest completely forgetting about building back links from directories. In fact, it might be a good idea to forget about back links all together, and focus on building relationships with authority bloggers in your niche.

    Relationships > Back-links.

I haven't submitted articles to any directories in ages. I feel that the time and effort are no longer worth it. You're better off writing high quality content and finding quality sites that accept guest blog posts.

It is effective if it is done the right way, and doing the right way is not easy and involved a lot of time and effort.

Ofcourse it will be useless with an article is spammed to hundred of articles directories with no quality.
