List Building as Effective?

I know myself, I try to unsubscribe from almost all email lists. I can't keep up with all the emails and all the sales offers.

Based on the amount of emails we all get, and the continued improvements of Spam filters, I'm curious as to what you folks have seen and experienced with building lists and, more importantly, open rates and conversions?

Thanks.

As long as you're building a list of high-quality subscribers (meaning they actually CARE about whatever niche/product/service you're promoting), and they're double-opted-in, and you engage them on a regular basis with useful content (not just constant sales pitches), list building is a great idea

I've had some lists of thousands of subscribers that achieved nearly 30% open rates on certain broadcasts. Note that this wasn't in an IM-related niche.

    Hi Ella,

I'm with khtm on this one... It doesn't matter what niche you are in, what matters when building a list is the relationship that you have with that list, and how CONNECTED that they feel with you as an individual.

By always writing your emails and all of your communication with your list/clients like you are only speaking to one person, the reader feels like they have connected with you on a deeper level, and will be much more engaged. I always talk to our list like I am talking to a friend down the pub!

I think there is still HUGE merit in having an email list, but that list has to be highly responsive, and the way to do that is by being personable to your list, and giving them some great content.

For IM, i find the more ultra targeted you are the better your rates. If you're just trying the general stuff, it probably wouldn't be as high as targeting people who specifically want to learn a technique like Facebook ads, list building, teespring etc.. And then all your offers are based around that specific area. I focused a group on a list building product once, and got much higher open rates than I had with my general IM lists.

ask yourself this.... are there certain emails from certain senders you open most of the time, despite the fact you get so many emails in your inbox... i bet you do!

and why do you or other people for that matter do that? because they expect a certain value inside the email, or this person has helped you in the past therefore you hold them in high regard.

so if you can do the same with your audience it will definitely work, and this starts at the very first moment they enter your funnel

email marketing is still for me and many others the number 1 way to make money online, but in the IM niche it has gotten a little tougher over the years i must admit, this simply means you must get your game up and sometimes re-think your entire approach to email marketing

    cheers!

This is why it's best to build a relationship with your list and avoid just slamming them with emails every day.

For most of your average people, even if they have signed up to your list you are seen as a spammer. It's a negative stereotype we all have to fight and help educate people on in order to continue making email marketing viable.

Email marketing will be a source of income for many people for a long time to come. Unless they replace email as a way to communicate or the filters get so tight nothing is really let through.

E-mail list respond in kind. So if you approach your list like they are an extension of your family, then they are going to respond as such. If you spew offers at them like a robot, then they are going to unsubscribe from spam.

My favorite technique with list building is offering increasingly excellent content (preferably video) and generating excitement with a product launch.

if you do it right its killer.

With all our niches we make about $500 a day online USD.

And I just checked recently and over 80% of all those sales we tracked has come from EMAIL or SOME FORM of email, when you look at the tracking.

So does it work! YES! But you have to have angles in your email, and use curiosity to make people open and to make them read, and then click. To do that you have to have a good relationship with them.

Once I asked a student that had 100,000 people on his database why he was getting sales, he looked at my stupid when I asked him "what value are you giving them, how are you helping them" as he was just spamming the hell outta them.

If you spam your members, you are just asking for trouble. If you give them good stuff, they will come to you throwing money at you.

So there is a wrong way and a RIGHT way to do this.

It all depends on your initial funnel.

If you only send some mailings and don't provide any real value your response rate will be very low. If you set up a training funnel which gives tons of value you get awesome results.

The best thing is to create a training funnel, with 5-7 lessons and send them a new lesson every day. People that are interested will follow the training you provide and you'll build a very high quality list this way. For me 1/3 people not only open the entire course but also click through to the training reports. That won't happen if you build your list with a free report and then send broadcasts...

As with everything, you need to adapt, those that do are still very succesful.

Very well said, this is exactly what you need to follow and start building your List.

I can assure you email marketing works gang busters. My partner hates, HATES being sold to, especially via email, she derides me all day for my obsession of email marketing, but there are a couple of businesses where she actively looks for their emails and get's excited by receiving them, which I in no short order remind her about often.

People don't want to be sold constantly but email marketing is just as effective as ever if you do it right.

No change and difference for me. I've seen a dramatic increase in my conversion rates. You know really when it comes down to selling online, you can't focus on the little doubts (or devils) in your mind that tell you, "well what if...?" or "this way of making money online isn't reliable...", and etc. Just sell something, do listbuilding because it's effective, and live life man.

You need to have a personality and ability to write good content.

Gone are the days of just using the copy & paste messages as nothing makes you look desperate when cookie cutter messages arrive.

Also make sure that you have enough initial follow-up in place to build up the relationship and explain why you're worth listening to. Even a simple first message telling people which social media you use on a regular basis, and sharing your other interests will make you stand out from the crowd.

      Such a general question!

What courses have you done on list building?

Building out any funnel is hard.

I suggest you try get tiny little businesses course.

If you can get the copy right you can make money with it. If you get it wrong you'll waste time and money.

It's a really strong feeling when you realise just how important copy is. Especially when you're learning about all the tech stuff... you can almost end up thinking it's the tech part that will result in sales....

... lol only it was that simple!

It ultimately just comes down to sending paid traffic to your marketing messages and seeing how it flies.

Convincing people to hand over their cash is no easy feat ---- especially online.

And I'd defo get some education on things like VSLs (video sales letters) and learn to do things like "results in advance".

If you get good paid targeted traffic inventory and put a decent message in front of them, they'll REMEMBER you so you'll stand out in the crowd from job emails etc.

Yes, email marketing and lists building is a real business,

It could make you a lot of money, and the reason why you don't enjoy sticking to some lists is because those people don't care about their subscribers.

If you don't treat your readers with some kind of respect, then they'll never enjoy reading your emails. Never make it a goal of just marketing and selling things in your email. You want to provide good and quality services when you can as well.
