Best File Hosting Option?

Hey guys,

I am going to be producing a membership site which will have around 85 gig worth of files, would it be better to use the space in my hosting account or should I use one of the file hosting sites and simply link to the files?

Which option would be best?

Thanks in advance.

Highly recommend getting that work-load off your web server.

We use Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) and deliver over a terabyte of data every month... This allows us to keep our money site loading SUPER FAST while also delivering downloads and the ability to stream our products to customers all over the world.

Amazon S3 is the best I can recommend. Dropbox is also a good option.

      Thanks guys,

What's the pricing like with s3 hosting? Heard a few horror stories about people having to pay a lot due to illegal sharing.

Is this true? Do you get charged if you go over a certain limit?

      Thanks again for your replies.

I've been using Amazon S3 and love it. I use Cloudberry Explorer to interface, upload etc. and S3 Bubble plugin for videos hosted on S3. both have great tutorials. I haven't had a problem with cost at all - no horror stories to report. When you sign up you'll see how much you'll get for upload/download. You can use it for storage with little to no cost - nice for backups.

This sounds like an ideal option for anyone who is sharing files online with customers. And, it sounds like something I would want to use. Can you tell me about how much you are paying per month for this specific service?

I always thought Amazon S3 was the way to go, until I actually had that conversation with someone from my managed server company.

He told me that, particularly for video, getting a dedicated Pure SSD VPS or server could be more economical and faster.

I haven't tried it, so I don't know. But I suggest, if you have a personal relationship with your hosting service, having a frank conversation with them about this. What they have to say might be compelling.

Amazon S3 is great option for you. However you can also go with Cloud severs which allow you to pay as you go.
