Looking for opinions on OTO's

I'm just curious what people on this forum think about OTO's (one time offers - after initial purchase). I've heard a lot of discussion on both sides of the fence.

One of the pro's is, you get a chance to make another sell, increasing your revenue.

The one main negative I've heard is that people tend to want to know what they are going to shell out up front. When they hit a OTO they get "stressed" and some get PO'd. I've talked to one marketer who said his return rate was higher doing OTO's rather than just bundling things up and having either 1 large offer on the page, or 2 offers on the page (initial product and the OTO package) so that the customer can make the determination up front.

Anyone have some thoughts on this?

My thanks in advance,

I remember Dan Kennedy saying that as long as you have one, you'll get a 30% conversion. If you want to make more money, do it. It's not all that stressful. If people don't want it, they "skip" it.

There are clients of mine who I boost several hundred to thousands by simply putting an OTO in place. If Wal-mart and Amazon does this, why would you not? I mean, come on. People are met with this every day.

"Want fries with that?" Even a simple question of "anything else?" is an OTO in the offline world. It's another chance for you to buy something. In our case, we provide something that is related to the product they just bought. It's imperative that the OTO compliments the initial product.

Just do it. You won't regret it. Good luck.
