Hello warriors!

Planning on creating a website soon that will be monetized if I can attract enough visitors. Been going through lots of ideas and a thought just crossed my mind so I wanted to check with you guys first:

- A how-to guides site. Similiar to wikihow it'd be consisting of various how-to guides on different subjects. It may be to big a subject for a starting website but I figured it would be a good place to insert promotional links as an affiliate.

If you have suggestions just holler!

Thanks!

    Hi Karlstec,

Let just say you go a head with that idea. What's going to make people come to your website? How are you going to stand out from the many webpages that offer guides. Don't get me wrong i'm not discouraging you, i'm trying to figure out how to make sure you don't waste your time.

Personally I would look to pick a topic/niche that doesn't have a lot of competition and from there choose affiliate programs that could be link with niche. Very little investment is needed and you can be up and running in 2 days. I just hope that whatever you decide to do, you take action sooner rather than later.

    I'm here for you.

    Good Luck

Good idea but you should work on SEO to drive traffic from search engines as well. Your Idea is good and you are going to seek newbies than experts. So you can offer lots of paid offers and product and they will buy from you if they have trust on you and you offer quality content for them.

My question is how/why you're considering setting up a business of that kind just at a time when so many others with that business model are going out of business (and for reasons which aren't even terribly difficult to understand, if you have a good look at what's going on)?

For myself, it would be a plan to avoid at all cost.

If you really want to try it, I wouldn't try to build it from scratch: there will be hundreds of those for sale at the moment, because so many people are getting out of that industry through lack of profit. It would probably cost little to buy one and develop it.

Even Squidoo has now completely failed and been bought out by another company.

That's also true, of course - but really isn't the main problem here (that's with the business model itself).

Research; research; research. Understand why so many people are getting out of this business model. There's no big mystery about it.

Think about how and why the income arises, and why Squidoo has been beset by increasing problems over the last 2-3 years: that's the big and important and helpful story, here. (Hint: businesses that are dependent on search engines for their traffic are never more than one algorithm-change away from a total disaster).

Read Warrior Forum regarding the number of people who got slapped and suffered when Google changed their algorithm.

Build your business on your own abilities and avoid disaster.

And Alexa is right on re: coming crash of so many of these kinds of sites. Be ready for the NEXT.

The hard part of this type of business is the big and vast amount of information you'll need to build from the get go. It could take a long time before the site is fully developed.

Monetizing is another problem you'll deal with. This is what a lot of people are dealing with nowadays that can end up having the site not make any money.

I would build up a site that isn't so wide in niches. Choose a single niche, or at least one big niche like self improvement and health & wellness instead of targeting tons of them.

Great Idea! Go get em done! Just one comment though.. even though it's a good idea. managing a website is not easy. you have to test different strategies to make it work.

    keep pushing

So many people are already trying out this idea now and the competition is just insane. This idea might have worked five years ago, before Wiki became so big. Also, sites that monetize too heavily with affiliate links will never have Wiki status in Google Search anyway. If you go with this idea, at least be sure to go with a super subniche rather than generic catch all wiki.

Sounds like a very ambitious plan. You really don't know how it is going to turn out unless you try it. If you have the drive and tenacity to do it then go ahead, but like everybody else said, it is going to be difficult and you're going to have to get creative.
