Does social bookmarking still hold the same wieght as it used to? Would you focus more on building backlinks instead?

I think social bookmarking not at all over rated and still very powerful, you are still multiplying your links. I use a site called
    Code:
    socialmarker.com
its semi-automatic free and has I think like 51 socialbookmarking sites all very good ones.

  • Links regardless of source only have value if they contribute to real people visiting your site... make sense right? So how do you get value out of social bookmarking? For one if you do it "right" the links get crawled... if you over do it and you have a poor ratio of natural links to bookmarking links it's possible that the Search Engines that matter may take notice and determine your site is not so valuable. I say possible because I reverse engineer a lot of sites and I see linking schemes that are working fine and working fine in Google.

So the real question isn't do they work, the real question is how to make them work for you. You can give anyone a hammer but not everyone can build a house if you know what I mean.

It's just one more tool... and some people can leverage that tool to their advantage and others can not. So when you are linking think about what you are linking and how you are linking. Pick your Titles, Descriptions, Keywords and TOPICS (People have to be interested you know) carefully.

No way is it overrated... Using bookmarking I can take one of my articles and have it indexed within 9 minutes, have top listing for my keywords, and generate traffic to that article even if the article was just posted 1 minute before bookmarking.

You must do bookmarking the correct way and ofcourse your backlink building matters a great deal here too... You must be doing other things to build backlinks at the same time.

Anytime you can get a top ten in google for a keyword set using web 2.0 properties you should do it.

There's nothing overrated about being on one of the best high traffic corners in town. Location - location - location!

    Do it.

social bookmarking has been working great for me. i got in the top 10 on google for my keyword just from social bookmarking. now granted my site wasn't in the top 10 but the social bookmark for my site was and im plenty happy with that.

Well almost all of them are no follow and get me very little traffic, so why bother.

I used to post on Digg and get 50 hits over night, but nothing now, which makes sense based on their Alex stats trend.

As far as bang for your buck, social bookmarking is severely overrated. As far as backlink juice for your site, once again, severly overrated. HOWEVER, some of the social sites will help you garner more than one ranking on the front page which can help develop funnels to your main site.

The proper way to social bookmark is to become a contributing and ACTIVE member of whatever social site you are hitting. I am a member of delicio.us and bookmark more things that just my own site (which I rarely bookmark) and actively participate in the community. Then again, this isn't some marketing scheme that I am dreaming and this social site isn't even part of a marketing plan. It is just something that I do in my spare time because I enjoy it.

You clearly have no authority on this issue because you are guessing?

Because I don't want other warriors to get the wrong impression based on your misinformation. Check this out: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...inks-free.html - Angela's backlink service is very well know on the warrior forum. Moreover, if you google her name, you can see how she sits at the top of google over 84 million other websites based on backlinks alone.

I could sit here and talk about this all day, but you seeing this for yourself is easier. Check it out...

Do you still think backlinks are overrated?

We must stop guessing and giving false information if we are not experts on it...
