Hi everyone total WF newbie, at least as a member! Wanted to just break the ice with a hello and perhaps get some guidance.

I've always worked in the service industry as a web designer and seo consultant. I recently became unemployed when the firm I was working for went under. To make a long story short I am in need of another income stream while I continue my job search.

I'd prefer to stay away from freelance sites so I've been looking at the complete sites for sale section here, anyone have luck with making a sustainable income selling their services there? If so what do you find Warriors look for most in a package offer?

Thanks everyone!

Hi, Kate! I can't answer your specific questions on the sites for sale threads here but did want to welcome you to the forum. Welcome!

I can give you a few ideas, though. You might look through the comments in those threads to see what people mention as being the things they liked most, look at the age of the thread to see how profitable it might be (I'd think those threads wouldn't stay up long if there wasn't someone making a profit from them somehow), and maybe take notes about what's included with the packages that seem to have received the most attention.

You could also take a look at Flippa.com. I've never sold or purchased there but I believe site designers do flip their work through that site, too.

    Hi Kate,

Since you having a background on Web Design and SEO, you should start first by getting your own porftolio of your own work as an individual SEO/Web Design service provider.

What you can do is offer some Bonus or Free guide to build your portfolio and client testimonials then ask them to post the the thread what they think about your work.

Then you can also ask for referrals, network with business people and subtly tell them what you do. Just stay around and don't be spammy.

It will be a uphill climb at first but once you get your name out there, it would be easy.

Another option is to offer a Done For You website and Offer a discount for a limited time. This will get your name out there.

    Hi Kate - welcome.

If you're wanting to buy pre-made sites and then improve upon them to make an income - I recommend reading Spencer Haws' case study: Case Studies: Public Projects on NichePursuits.com | Niche Pursuits

Look under his "Buying and Selling Websites" section - he goes into a great amount of detail in the case study - a good read that should put you on the right path.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea but I think you should examine all your options (they are many) before you decide.

Selling your services to the IM crowd can be extremely frustrating and stressful.

Hi Kate, welcome to the forum. As a web designer, i imagine that you have dabbled in some graphic design also. You will be glad to know that alot of people on this forum are looking for a great graphic designer. Either they want great website banners, ebook covers, digital product covers, or even WSO sales page images... you will find them here. If you know how to do any of these, you should promote your services there. And don't mind the small cost of putting your listing there... it'll pay off on your first client.

Yes, you can make income on forums by providing your services which are regularly requested. It will be hard at the beaning until you become well known and trusted.

Freelancer sites are actually pretty good if you have a service to offer.

I used to work on PeoplePerHour as a designer and made big bucks on there.
One occasion, a company signed me up for a $10,000 deal.

But I would suggest you pursue whatever you are passionate about.

I have my finger in a few different pies. One of those pies being a web design and development agency that caters to the local business market in my area.

I haven't used the section on WF that you mention, but I can tell you - with complete confidence - that the model is a good one.

If I were to give you any advice, it would be this: make high-end websites. The plethora of "design your own website" platforms has hurt this industry, and saturation levels of people doing just what you're proposing is high.

    Ideally, what you need is:

    1. To Develop High-End Designs
    2. To Put Together HARD To Put Together Websites
    3. To Target A Market With Repeat Buyers

Let me give you an idea.

You could create complete authority sites for marketers. Look into what makes a good one and offer your services to create these at a fair price.

You'll be selling for a high-ticket price and you'll likely, if you keep at it, get people who return time and time again.

    Hi Kate.... Welcome!

I am not sure of your abilities but it seems that you have the necessary skill set to make a decent living simply by just hanging around WF and offering your services if that is your desire.

I have been involved in many brick and mortar establishments over the years and all in the capacity of owner or Managing Director or General Manager. Basically, I was the 'last straw' when it came to decisions. Businesses that generated annual revenue ranging from $1M per year to $200M per year; with employees from 3 to 316.

And in all scenarios, I was trading my time for $$$.

But I have decided to build a business (and hence lifestyle) that generated passive residual income.

May I suggest that you think in terms of passivity and not trading time for dollars. You can then earn money while you are sleeping or on vacation.

Use your skills to best develop passivity. Your previous employer going bust may be the best thing that could have happened to you. Everything happens for a reason.

    Just my rant.
