Hello,

Warriors.

Recently I have joined linkshare and promote a advertise from their network. It is basically a hosting product. when I checked the reports. It displayed 23 clicks a day with 46.6% CTR, But Zero sales or commission. What does it mean? Please elaborate.

When your page isn't making sales you need to evaluate the chain of activity that is leading up to the click on the affiliate link.

That chain looks something like this:
    • Traffic to your offer
    • Clicks on your affiliate link
    • Sales page
Start by analyzing your traffic source. Is it "targeted"? How are these people arriving at your site and what signals are there in the traffic source that would help you understand if they're looking to buy what you're promoting?

For example, if your traffic is from search engines then find the keywords bringing that traffic. Are they buyer keywords? Like "buy such and such hosting plan" or is it more like "such and such hosting complaints"? That last phrase is an exaggerated example but demonstrates that if someone uses a phrase that's not buyer oriented to arrive at your content it's going to be hard to convert that person into a sale.

Is the traffic source from paid ads? Is the ad message out of sync with the content on your page or the product's sales page?

Look at the page where the affiliate link sits. What text is nearby? What's your call to action? Is it possible that something on your page is getting them to click before they're ready to buy? Do they think they're clicking the link to find more information or to actually make a purchase?

Look at the sales page on which they're landing after clicking your link. Is there anything that doesn't line up with what you've said on your own page? Is the price higher than they expected? Are there extra requirements or fees they didn't expect?

You'll have to do this kind of analysis to find the issue but it's extremely beneficial to do this on a regular basis. After you practice this a bit you can then split test changes in the chain to see what gets better results.

Thanks for your help. But I promote it as showing banner in my blog sidebar and all clicks are coming from my blog as I did not promote it anywhere else.

If the banner is getting clicks it's drawing someone's attention. This might mean that if you did a post on the product and put your affiliate link in the post you might see better conversions. Do a review, describe the benefits, give your visitors a solid understanding of why they should get the product.

Or, does the banner not really have anything to do with the topic of your blog such that a post on the subject would seem out of place? That might also explain the low conversion rate. If you're writing a blog about cooking and you've got a banner for a hosting service there isn't going to be a lot of targeted traffic for that hosting service. People might click on it out of curiosity but since that's not really what they were shopping for at that moment (they were reading your recipe for lemon chicken, as an example) it's going to be tough to get them to suddenly decide they need to sign up for a hosting service.

Great advice from Erica, and Vishwa marketing is all about fine tuning and managing every aspect of the ad/sales funnel. Little subtle changes can make a huge difference, like changing some of the text in the body of your ad if you're getting a high click-thru, even placing the buy now button nearer the top and have several of them. Every time you have a poor result something must change, and with your campaign half is working great so it's just the other part you need to work on a little like a mechanic fine tuning an engine. Keep tracking everything and keep making changes until you hit the bullseye.

Just because you are getting clicks, does not mean that you will make sales.

So if you are getting 23 clicks a day and no sales, maybe you should change the affiliate offer.
