Hey guys I'm new to IM and want to create an authority site centered around a slow paced form of yoga with a lot of lying down poses. Can someone give me tips on where my expectations should be and what I should focus my time on? Currently my plan is to continue creating articles and also start creating YouTube videos. I signed up for an amazon affiliate account too, and created little links in my articles when talking about specific props to use. Here is my website www.LayDownYoga.com --- give me your best criticism, although this is very much a new project, I would appreciate some direction from experienced IMers.

There's an immediate disconnect with the name of your site and your image. The image shows a bunch of people either standing, or standing on their heads. I see no people laying down.

The people also appear to be plastic, or dolls. Don't believe the yoga crowd would go for that...

    Best,
    Evita

Haha had a good laugh from reading your comment. Yah this is the first site I ever put together and I'm using wordpress, so I followed a tutorial on youtube for a lot of it. I have A LOT to learn. As for the facebook and youtube links, I just wanted to set those up for the future. Currently, I javen't started creating video content and don't have a facebook page. I think I will buy a professional theme, any in particular worth checking out? I'll hold off on the logo for now and make changes to the 'call to action button'.

Firstly, do people think they are going to get injured doing yoga? I would think not so your BIG SELLING POINT actually has a negative effect because now I am thinking, hell I didn´t know yoga was dangerous. I´m off to do some ti chi instead.

I'm slightly hesitant to say so, but I suggest "lie down yoga" might be a better description, because "lay" is a transitive verb: you can "lay something down", but if doing it yourself, you're surely "lying down", not "laying down"??

        .

Haha nice didn't realize that. But I don't think I'm buying a new domain name.

Thanks guys. And yeah lots of people get injured doing yoga because it's taught like an aerobics class. But I see your point lol. That picture was just something cool I saw on flickr with a CC license. Ill try a different one.

Logo - Get a professional one
Theme design - Get a professional one
Call to action - "learn free now" change to "Learn For Free Now"

The image should also link to the course rather than the image itself.
I am not even sure what the website is about.

The theme does not really show "yoga" to me.

also the bottom three sections, you ask people to subscribe and follow you on social media but you don't have any links.

Yes, I need to fix that. Do you have any recommendations for professional themes?

I had a quick look Danny here is my $0.02 based on my very first impression.

Get some content (100 -200 words) on that from page and tell me what Laydown Yoga is.

You have to much 'me' ... Contact me x2 'Connect with me' About me'

What about us who want to know about this Yoga thing?

Put you photo on the home page.

Well done for making a start

    Hi Dannytaki,
Good start but you need to put in much more before you ask for a review,
I could not find any content about your branding, What is Lay Down Yoga ? Why Lay Down etc
It seems you are out to teach yoga, plain common yoga like the articles on your site, downward facing dog, headstand and one legged king pigeon, they are not Lay Down, or if there are you need to explain it. Or get another name like learnyoga.guru or something like that, if you wait the .yoga extension gTLD (generic top level domain) will soon be out for public registration.
YogaNidra.guru would be excellent if you are teaching lie down yoga, but that is not the case as I see.
The equinox video is nice, the lady is barely clothed which is a distraction but her yoga is good, that is of the astanga style where people get injured more, it is a difficult yoga, the opposite of lay down I guess.
    All the best,
    Mufad.

Your website has a clean design, which is great. You could add a logo, use a more appealing font for the site name, and provide a brief intro on the homepage. Write unique content and include relevant keywords. Simply describing those exercises won't help you with SEO. Your posts should have an introduction, body, and conclusion. The site looks good overall.

Site looks a lot better after the changes you made.
But. IF you are making this into an authority site, it is well worth it to have the proper name.
English is my second language, so missed the lay down vs. lie down that Alexa pointed out.

How much is a domain?? Improper English will turn a lot of people off, and you immediately
lose credibility which makes it harder to sell and come across as an authority.

    Good luck with your venture.
