Mac experts: Help with cutting size when converting from Screenflow to streaming Flash

Hey Guys!

I just completed a video product on my Mac and it's the first time I'm doing this without using Camtasia. I'm using Screenflow to do the recording and then VisualHub to convert to FLV for online streaming.

The problem I'm having is that the FLV output is significantly larger than when I used Camtasia. My product is 1h 40m long and is currently 303MB. My last video product I made with Camtasia, which coincidentally happened to be 1h 40m as well, was only 140MB.

Granted, the new product is slightly larger in dimension than the old one, but I didn't think the difference would be this great. I'd appreciate any help from people who are using the same set up to create video products.

My settings:

From Screenflow, I exported in NTSC DV which gives a monstrous QuickTime file. I set the quality to Medium and framerate to 30 fps.

Then in VisualHub, I used Standard quality and set framerate to 15 fps for Flash output.

Thanks!
XC

Since you are on a Mac, you should take advantage of iMovie's export features.

1- Once you have your screenflow recording, crop it down to the correct size. Normally that would be something smaller than your entire screen. Try and use a standard window size like 640x480, then export as a .mov file to your desktop.

2- Open iMovie and create a new project.

3- Import your .mov file into iMovie within that project.

4- Use iMovie to edit out all of the mistakes, uhhs, and duhhs.

5- Now export using iMovie again to create a new .mov file. (will be much smaller) Delete your old .mov file that came directly from screenflow.

6- Then use you fav movie editor and break up and edit your video into manageable segments.

    Thanks Marty!

Will try that. I pre-scripted the videos this time so there won't be much to edit, which will make it even simpler for me.
