Amazon Affiliate Question

Does Amazon accepts brandable domain name/site?
Like if I will promote "men clothing" on my site, is it okay to use "Freemen" (Brand name) as a domain name and establish my own brand?
Thanks!

    Hi,

It is not so much if Amazon will accept the name.

The company that owns the brand might not like it too much.

As a rule you cannot take someone's brand name and build your own brand off of the back of it.

As an example - imagine if i created a drink called "Coca Colas" - i think i would run into a bit of trouble.

As a rule i would stay away from brandnames in the domain.

However, when promoting Amazon products i have never had a problem mentioning brand names in the content as long as you are clear that you do not own, or have anything to do with the brand.

    Chris

It's not about "brandable". It's (generally) about "trademarked".

The answer's no: Amazon will not (knowingly) accept an affiliate site which uses someone else's trademark in the url (because - understandably - they don't want their own business to be associated with potential breaches of trademark).

Edited to add: as mentioned below, I meant to say "domain-name", not "url"!

I think having the trademark in the url is fine ( example: myawesomereviewsite.com/trademarkname ; there are countless online stores that structure their sites this way) versus domain name that contains trademark (mytrademarknamereview.com).

        You're totally right, of course.

Many thanks for pointing this out.

I meant to say "domain-name", not "url". How careless of me.

I've read that it's not okay to have variations or misspellings of a trademark in the domain name. I also understand that it's not okay to use a single-word trademark in a multi-word domain. I was wondering if the trademark owner has a claim or if Amazon has a problem if you use one or two words of a three or more word trademark.

For example, The Beverly Hillbillies is trademarked, but Beverly Hillbillies isn't and Hillbillies isn't. Would Amazon have a problem or would the owner have a claim if your domain was beverlyhillbilliestvshow.com or hillbilliestvshow.com?
