Are Thanks Limited in Posts?

Hey Warriors!

In one thread, I thanked the people as I read the posts - for their input. Once I got to a certain point, my thanks button disappeared. I was thanking so I wouldn't have to personally reply to each post - I didn't know it could possibly have my thanks button removed. LOL Is there a limit? Will I get it back? Am I thank banned?

I got an email one day from someone who was hurt that I hadn't mentioned them in my reply when I'd mentioned others so I wanted to make sure I acknowledged everyone's input

    Hi Tiff,

I believe there is a daily limit. The same thing happened to me yesterday, but today I was able to thank people again.

Not sure what the limit is, but I think it's a good thing to reach the limit on.

    All the best,
    Michael

    Hey Tiff,

Yea there is a daily limit, can't remember the number exactly, something like 20 or 25.

Anyways not to worry, your thanks button will return tomorrow.

I can't thank myself for you, so I thanked Jared and you instead.

I have always been worried about overthanking too. Now I know I can do a bunch without trouble, and stay under the radar of the thank gods, lol.

It is good that thanks are limited, otherwise some dope with more time than brains will come in here and thank everyone on the planet. LOL!

But I do question the use of the thank you button. While I certainly do appreciate being thanked, I don't expect it every time I post. I mean, some posts just don't require it because they lack substantial value.

If you'll notice beside each thank you section it says.... so-and-so thanks you for this useful post - but some people thank useless posts as well. Like, those that are nothing more than one-line comments with little if any value in terms of helpful information.

It just appears to me that some people don't understand the real purpose of the thank you feature. (Sorry, Tiffany ) It's not just a courtesy response... it's to note a worthy, helpful and value-packed piece of information.

If you check your profile section, you can see which posts got thanked. Someone else checking your profile can follow those thanked posts to access that quality information.

Isn't that how it's supposed to work? Or am I missing something?

But Tiffany, I can't believe someone actually complained because you didn't acknowledge their input. Geez, I've posted tons of great value and not received a thank you or even a response from the OP.

Yeah, it's nice if they do thank you and it is somewhat disarming when they don't, but you just move on. Why complain?

Right I agree - but I felt it important to thank those who took the time to give their input (and it was all valuable to me) in the thread/poll I posted. For them to give their time helping me make my decision was worthy of my thanks

If the input was valuable as you say, that's different, but I see people thanking people for adding comments that have nothing to do with the thread. It's like the OP didn't even read the comments... just ran down the list and hit the thank you button. That's what I'm talking about. I mean, clearly you had something to work out and others will likely get value from that input you received as well.

In the end it all comes to perspective, I suppose, doesn't it? But I certainly do not agree that it's there just to say, "Hi, thanks for dropping in."

I sort of disagree. I think the thank-you is a courtesy response - one that could get out of hand hence the limit. But I think that the thank-you's also build community and appreciation for each other. There are people I appreciate a lot in this forum and the thank-you button is my way of showing it, useful info or not.

I was doing a lot of thanking the other day and I was thinking about that same thing. I'm glad I know that now. 25 is good I think, unless there are a LOT of people giving useful info in one thread.

There is probably a DAILY limit or even a a limit on minutes. Let's say that you thank someone at 4:00PM est. Maybe until 4:15 you can not do another thanks.

I am not too sure. Maybe you can email ADMIN and ask them.

I'm very grateful for this information..LOL!

I thank people if they change my state from just reading posts to actually thinking about what they said. If they make me smile or give great information.

If we all went mad on the thanks button it would dilute its purpose in my opinion.
