It's the age old question of how long should a sales letter be.

If it covers all the essentials and could persuade the reader to
buy then for sure that's enough. I wouldn't be counting words
but making sure you TELL enough to SELL enough.

As a rule of thumb, the lower the price the fewer the words needed.

I think you probably ask about a 500 word sales letter because some copywriting services base their fees on word count.. so my answer would be sure, 500 words from a PRO can convert well, but as Raydal says: "make sure you TELL enough to SELL enough" because from this standpoint you can't really tell more than the features of your product in 500 words... that's like one page in word.

Respectfully, any copywriter that charges by the word most likely ain't much of a copywriter. I've never seen, except maybe for this place, anyone that charges by the word.

Yeah as a copywriter, worrying about word count is completely irrelevant. How many words should a sales page be? The answer is whatever it takes to GET THE JOB DONE

        I sell my own products.

I have sales letters anywhere from a few hundred words.... to tens of thousands of words.

One of the longer ones converts steady at 12 percent..... as does one of my "short forms".

The moral is: length doesn't matter as much as the message

This is what you should think about, totally agree with it.

The sales letter should be as long as is necessary to get the message across to the target market. As stated earlier, a good rule of thumb is to match the length with the price. But the message must be clear regardless of the length.

        Agreed...

Sometimes getting a simple ad or opt in page to convert well takes more time than writing a 5,000 word sales letter.

A sales letter should be as long as it needs to be to generate sales... This could be 100 words or 10,000...

I would say 400-500 words would probably be fine as you want to keep the interest of the reader as well. It's best to have something that will capture the reader in the 1st 10 seconds of reading & then make them want to try your product at the end of it as well.

Capture the reader in the first 10 seconds....... CHECK (I do it in 5)

      Keep the reader engaged..... CHECK

400 - 500 Words...... DANGERIOUS ASSUMPTION. How do you know it can be done in 400 to 500 words?

The answer is... ... you can't.

Every product...... Every pitch..... Every market is different.

That means every sales letter is different..... which is why "word count" is (or should be) the LAST THING a copy writer needs to worry about.
