Go daddy hosted by hostgator, how to add wordpress

I got my URL at godaddy and I set up hostgator as the host. Now when I try to go into hostgator and ad wordpress to get started building my site I do not see the URL I recently added. Do I need to wait a day or just a few hours? I keep running into these little issues and its driving me insane.

You need to add the domain name before you try to install WP.

    Hi

It's not clear exactly what you did.

Here is the checklist of what you need to do. Find out what you have and haven't done.

    1. Register domain at Go Daddy
    2. Get hosting at Hostgator
    3. Create Add On Domain at Hostgator in cpanel
    4. Update your DNS servers at Go Daddy to point to Hostgator
    5. Install WordPress in Hostgator cpanel to your new Add On domain

At what step did you run into a problem?

I daresay I might be able to help.

Installing Wordpress can be as simple as a click or two in your cPanel - which, for beginners, is perfectly fine (as long as you don't mind the possibility of being hacked), or it can be a slightly longer process.

I have a complete step by step guide that might help you...

ok I will trouble shoot with that info. I thought I did all the right steps because I have already completed a website with this method and did not run into these issues. Is it just because its the 2nd URL im adding? Also I think Im getting confused between hosting and transfering the URL

Did you add your domain as an add-on domain? I sometimes make that mistake.

There are two steps you did not do.
You did not point the nameservers to Hostgator.
You did not add the domain name to Hostgator.

So, here are the steps to follow:
    1. Check the sign up email you got from Hostgator. There must be some nameservers sent by them. Make a note of them.
    2. Log in to your GoDaddy account and go to Domains > Setup Nameservers > Replace the nameservers of GoDaddy with that you have got from Hostgator.
It takes about 12 to 24 hours to complete the process.
    3. Now, login to your Hostgator cPanel and go to "Add Domains" and add the domain name. That's it.

It usually takes a few hours for a new WordPress site to go live. Don't forget to update the DNS servers and install WordPress on your site. Hostgator allows users to install WP with one click, so you shouldn't have any problems.

Make sure to point your domain name servers to the name servers your hosting supplied.
