Hello,

Could anyone give me their thoughts on selling an eBook on Amazon Kindle Store vs. selling it through your own sales page? Amazon is a great store, reviews help generate more sales, but you can generally charge more through your own gig. Curious on other people's thoughts.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

I do both. And the decision depends on different factors.

KDP, for me, is about finding an audience that I would not usually tap into. More than merely the marketplace, traffic to your KDP projects comes from outside sources, and the legitimacy of the Amazon platform encourages some buyers, who would not always join a list or frequent one of my websites, to make a purchase decision. These days, if I sell an e-Book to my list, this is generally because I have a large audience and the e-Book is tailored to them. KDP projects, however, enable you to expand beyond what you already have in terms of ready buyers, and conquer new horizons.

If you're starting out, I'd advise you to try both. And, of course, promote your KDP projects on your own websites.

KDP is a wonderful, long-term, stable business model. Yes, there's competition. Yes, there's talk of saturation. But to say KDP is saturated by internet marketers is to say publishing in general is saturated. It will never happen.

As long as a lone voice has something worthwhile to impart, people will listen.

Kindle is a huge market place with built in traffic, so you are more likely to make sales there for an ebook than if you hosted it on your own blog which might only have a few thousand views a month. Another thing to consider is how people go to Kindle ready to buy, credit card in hand (or saved on file with Amazon), but not likely the situation when at a regular blog. The trust factor for making instant purchases is greater with Kindle/Amazon.

1.Enter each book's ISBN in the text box below and click "Sell these books."
2.If you like what we offer, you'll just need to pack and ship the books to our warehouse in Portland, Oregon.
3.Once they arrive, we'll look them over and issue payment in your choice of online credit or cash.

The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a ten-digit code assigned to books published after 1972 or a thirteen-digit code assigned to books published after 2006.

Each ISBN is unique to a specific edition. A different ISBN is assigned to hardcover and paperback versions of the same title, as well as later editions with changes or additional content, or editions produced by different publishers.

Do both. but just one when you are just starting out. You'll have a lot of chance later on.

To help you choose further. If you have time creating your own sales copy, recruiting an affiliate and setting up a sales funnel then go for product launch.

But if you want a more simpler way then go Kindle.

      All true, I think.

I wouldn't want to limit my own sales to Kindle owners (even including Kindle-for-PC owners).

There are also non-Kindle Amazon sales available, of course ...

I'm a bit confused, why would you think you can charge more through your website? Unless your planning on selling your book for thousands you can price it at what you want on Amazon.

And really, it's a no brainer. Amazon is the biggest sales platform on the planet (or nearly) they have a much bigger reach than your own website could ever hope to have so why wouldn't you use it to your advantage?

You should do both but be aware that if you do sell on your website you will probably have to provide a certain level of customer support. One of the advantages of selling on Amazon or one of the other platforms, is they handle delivering the ebook to the reader device. If someone has a device and doesn't know how to get your ebook onto their device (if they are not reading it on their computer) then they are going to need instructions or help if they can't get it onto the particular reader.
