Are Animated On Scroll Effects killing my conversions ?

Hello Friends,
How do animated sales pages perform when compared to static ones ? I do not mean pages with videos, I mean pages that move things around when the user scrolls.
For example in this page warning.domains/animated.php as we scroll down the page elements keep sliding in. I am still testing and working on improving the conversions.
Do you have any experience with onscroll animated sales pages ? If you were to read such a page, Do you feel distracted by the animation, do you appreciate the effort to make it stand out, or do you just leave not wanting to read any further when you see a scroll animation ?
Please share your experience and your feedback to improve the conversions on warning.domains/animated.php
Thank You,
Mufad.

As the page you mentioned in your post. I highly recommend to not use animated texts and banners. Also don't use much colors in your landing page. People love clean and nice landing page not so busy pages.
For a beautiful animated page you should learn jquery which is related to coding.

    Hi Chris,
Thank You for your feedback, have you done any testing on scroll animated pages ? That page in my post makes use of jquery and css animations to produce the effect of 1 second entry animation just when the page elements enter the viewport after the user scrolls down to them.
    Regards,
    Mufad.

The page you shared drove me nuts... BUT if you were to do it right, movement COULD, MAYBE help you direct attention and move people down your page.

It's really something you'd have to test out and see for yourself. And I wouldn't add it to every detail right away.. test small and see the reaction on conversions.

Opinion are like... elbows? I think the saying goes

But in marketing it's not about opinion, it's about conversions. So test it out and see for yourself, that's the only way to KNOW if it works or not... everything else is just people flapping their... elbows.

Thank You Victor for that meaningful insight.
I was asking if anyone has tested and seen any results like increasing or decreasing their conversions.
Testing is expensive so sharing experience and knowledge is always useful so we do not have to reinvent the wheel every time we build a new vehicle, that is how mankind has progressed so far, to have any information at their finger tips on the internet ! Just a century ago that would have been the greatest miracle, a century is just a blink of an eye in the life of earth considering billions of years of evolution !

I do appreciate that each product is different, and in a technical related subject like domain registration and domain management, an animation may help but over all I feel its the message in the sales page that drives the sales, so if the animation distracts from the main message then I must get rid of it, like you said it drove you nuts !
    Thank for that feedback,
    Mufad.

I suggest you just rid of it on the simple basis that unncecessary animation is....unnecessary.

It won't increase conversions and the time you spend on any kind of testing is probably best spent doing something else in your business.

In marketing presentation and style are super-important (see: Apple ) however the information needs to be cleanly, clearly presented.

When a page has too much going on - and too many animations, it distracts users from the content of the site - and it is this content you want them to be reading!

So - ensure you have nice high-quality graphics for your site and ensure the overall look and feel is clean, stylish and well-presented - however stay away from "over-the-top" graphics and "tacky" graphics.

I hope my answer was helpful.

Also, as it goes - if you PM me now I'm doing free marketing graphics and minisites for Warrior's just to help me build up a portfolio - so drop me a PM if you're interested in that - otherwise my advice is: Graphics are super-important, but you have to get them right, clean, clear, stylish graphics are the way to go and tacky, cheapy looking graphics must be avoided.

    Peace,
    Gh0zt

I think it's a little too much. Having that effect with the first couple images on the page is fine . I like it, but as soon as it passes the box with the extensions , it starts to become a little too much effect for simple messages . Just my opinion

If I were a potential customer, I would have left the page after about the 3rd unnecessary animation. I'm a fast reader and like to quickly scan websites as I scroll down the page and the animations made it all but impossible. I've never tested animations like the ones you're using, but I can say for sure they would have driven me off.

Hi, As I scrolled down the page, I personally thought it was good, the problem starts if you want to scroll back up the page, I started to wobble on my office chair. I think once is enough, as the animation stops for the first time, I think it should stop for good.

That's really clever, but how are your conversions?

If you haven't tested yet, I would create a split test with the other page being static and not so much colour.

    Good luck

Absolutely awful(not the design or you, but how much is going on and distracting from your text). Okay, so you like movement and animation, that's not a problem. The problem is you have too much of a good thing. Have it once on a page could help... having it throughout is bound to hurt. It slows down my reading.

Anything that takes attention away from what your goal is, is a bad thing. Simple, clean, free of distractions, that's what you probably want to increase your conversions.

    Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

You'd need to test, but I'd bet you anything that it IS killing conversions. It looks really unprofessional, but even more than that, it makes the content hard to read.

mufad, sorry, I have not tested them, but I didn't like your animations either, though I think they are nice once...

I looked at your salespage initially, closed it and after reading some comments I opened it again: this time no animations showed up (on a Samsung Galaxy S3).

A bit off topic: I missed bullet points with the benefits and I also think you should make shorter paragraphs, people don't like to read long paragraphs.

Why don't you try split testing the animated page versus a non-animated page and find out?

As others have stated that page is WAY too busy and annoying but having maybe one animated section below the fold to introduce the product may be cool and keep the viewer scrolling down the page.
