Questions about the business

Hi everyone,

I am an editor of a financial online newsletter biz and like a lot in my arena, aren't making the money we once did. It seems that most of our sales now are coming from renting out our email list. We used to do quite well, but for some reason or another, the newsletter industry seems to of dropped off completely.
Anyhow, here we are, we got 15,000 dedicated emails and they're not buying anymore.. Maybe 5-6 $99 orders per month. So my questions is, if anyone else is in the same boat, what can I do? What is selling? What niche is doing well enough to try and save this company?
I know its tough questions but I just don't know what to do anymore

To me it sounds like you burned out your list by "renting it out"

Also, how old is your list? If people have been on there for years - I don't know that they really "count" anymore.

Those that have purchased - was it for a great product? Did it add value?

Are you currently adding unique value driven content to your subscribers lives?

To me, it sounds like you're just burnt out and done...and your content will show that's how you feel.

What I would do is -

Clean up my list - remove those that don't open anything or aren't active. Gain a more realistic view of what you're working with.

Start a unique series of value driven content. Like 3-5 emails...sent over a one to two week period...that re-invigorates your list...gets them excited about the content and value you provide.

Then, try and make a sale.

This is excellent advice. Agree with every point.

That's a good advise and plan to start with.

    Yes that's a good point,

you need to reinvigorate your list and send good valuable content to it.

Its probably not a good idea to rent out your list, as its value will be diluted.

One option is to have two lists, one that you keep for yourself and another you
    can rent out.

    Best Regards

Have you considered a real product, special report, cd, dvd which you can send via snail mail? Sometimes an older list of niche traffic can be re-energized with an off line offer.

Something like, So Secret, We Can NOT Share This Online...Why China is Dumping Gold and the EXACT Date Your Gold Becomes Worthless...FREE DVD.

    Or such.

All good advice, One I didn't see was try to build your list again. If you built a good list before, I'm sure you can add to it. There are always people who want to make money.
