Newbie in need advice on choosing path in IM

Hello everyone I've held a strong interest in internet marketing for awhile now but never seriously desired to become an online marketer. Why? Many reasons come to mind, but I've recently had a change of heart. I no longer can ignore the facts. Many people are making substantial money using internet marketing. I believe by using sheer determination and consistent action I can also find success like many others here at Warriorforum!!

As you read my comments, please keep in mind that I'm fairly new to online marketing. I took my time out to research various ways of making a profitable online business but, in my opinion at least, I still could use help from those much more knowledgeable.

Here are the three ideas I'm thinking of implementing so far:

Idea 1

Overview- Create a multifaceted informational anime website. The website would contain anime wallpapers, news, video trailers for upcoming anime series, reviews etc...

Questions & Concerns:

1.I'm not exactly a website design guru. I can do basic html but struggle with more advanced languages. Therefore, I'll need professional website design assistance. My main concern isn't with the initial creation of the website. I'm aware that having someone build it from the ground up can be costly. My main concern is with maintenance. Would I be at a major disadvantage because of my novice skills? In general (I know this isn't an easy question to answer without knowing "exactly" where my technical skills are) is maintaining a multipage website illogical for someone with such limited technical abilities? I wouldn't want to create this behemoth of a website just to be at the mercy of the person who created it.

2. Since I'm not directly selling a product or service, would a ppc program like adsense be the only logical way to make a profit?

Idea 2
Overview- This website's main focus would be streaming anime videos. Being an anime fan myself, I've spent time on some of these websites watching videos my favorite anime series. Here is a good example of what I'd like to accomplish: animeseed.com

Questions & concerns:

1. These websites are avoiding copyright violations by embedding links for videos and not actually hosting any of the material on their servers. In your opinion, are you playing with fire when you create such a website, or are these websites pretty safe considering they only provide people with links to videos?

2. I guess concern number 1 from idea number 1 is also a concern with this website. Although, it should be much easier to maintain when compared with the first mentioned idea.

3. Question number 2 from idea 1 also applies for this website.

Idea 3
Overview- Implement affiliate marketing via clickbank. This of course is the cheapest of the three. Also, I think I'm capable of creating and maintaining the small scale website that'll be required.

Questions and concerns: Nothing really.

Being a new guy on the scene, I think going the clickbank route would be the most rationale, cost effective approach. However, I'm very passionate about anime and would love to create a website that involved sharing my love for it.

In your opinion, which idea do you feel would be best for me to venture into internet marketing?

Thank you all for your time and advice

Not knowing much about anime, I can't really comment much on the first two ideas other than they sound expensive to implement. The last idea may be simpler, but not necessarily cheaper. It all depends on what you're marketing and the method you use. PPC will likely be very expensive, for example, but article and forum marketing would be cheap and might be effective. Bottom line, unless you've got a huge marketing budget, you're better off sticking with marketing methods that have been perfected by others. Study and learn from them. Don't be a pioneer, and plan on a long learning curve.

Instead of Clickbank why not try CPA ads first. This is also inexpensive if you watch your budget and you can make money quickly. Read up in the PPC / CPA forum for more info. I haven't had a lot of success with Clickbank and I'm not sure the products are all that great quality.

While you are doing that, why not build your anime site slowly. You don't have to pay someone to do everything you want right out of the gate. Why not start with something on a Wordpress format first, make it look nice and slowly grow it over time, then you can ultimately build it into what you want. You can either do it yourself or hire it done, but don't try to have it all this month or this year.

You can learn the coding stuff for website building. I built my first pages years ago using help with the HTML Goodies site and now I'm slowly learning how to modify Wordpress files written in CSS and PHP. The good thing is that since I know how to modify HTML files it makes it easier to understand how to modify the other files and there is plenty of help out there on forums and at the Wordpress support forum to help when I get stuck.

As a newbie, you need to focus. That's my issue as well. I'm not really new to IM, I've tried a bunch of stuff before, but I think it's so much better today than 10 years ago when I first started trying this stuff. So try to figure out what to focus on. My focus is going to be, at this point, 1 large info site in a particular niche. This is going to be my flagship site, monetized with Adsense, affiliate offers and CPA offers. Then I have my 2 other niche sites - one for CPA and PPC and one for affiliate marketing. I plan to grow those sites first and then branch further out into other niche websites.

So I'm focusing on CPA / PPC and Niche markets. Read some more and something will jump at you and you'll know that's what you want to do.

Thanks rivulguy and routonc38 for your responses. I'm really leaning towards holding off on the anime website idea for some time. Sure I can slowly build the website but I think my main focus should be generating a small weekly profit form online marketing. Being out of school for almost a year now without employment, I really need to start making some income to payback student loans and credit card debt. Putting too much money into a project without being certain of solid ROI at this point would spell disaster.

As suggested, I'll definitely research some more on CPA and also work on my technical skills. Someday I would love to be skilled enough to make an awesome anime website without burning a hole in my pockets.

    Thanks again for the help
