Do You Build A List In Every Niche You Enter?

Now I know it's important to build a list. There is no arguing that.

However, do you build a list in every niche you enter?

I can't seem to get my head around how you would manage all of the incoming emails you would receive from your subscribers on a huge range of different topics.

I would love to hear from people who do have lists in many different niches and how you go about managing all of the emails you receive.

The easiest way, imho, is to set up pop mail addresses for each different domain or niche that has all mail forwarded to it. Then using a mail client, like outlook or thunderbird, have each different mail address put mail from each niche into it's own folder.

At the very least, you can stay organized and that should be half the battle.

      Great idea I agree!

Also you definetely should build a list in every niche you enter. SO that means you need a new squeeze page for each niche. That of course means you also need a new list and new email capture form from your autoresponder service. Who will keep your lists organized for you.

No. Some markets do not have
enough client value to make it
    worth building a list.

Simply put, some things on the internet
    are merely "researched" rather
    than "purchased".

If the niche is worth my time it is worth my list building effort .

In bigger niches I actually separate my list by interest .

This can be done very simply by using a different form for each freebie I give away .

The best way I have found to separate replies is to use gmail and simply have a separate account for each autoresponder (or form)

I then use bend the web toolbar to keep me up to date on all new emails

I have a stringent set of guide lines I use and if it meets all that criteria then I build the list no mater the niche...

I am currently managing over 50 different lists in many different niches. Some niches I have segmented (i.e men & women)...

It's really not that time consuming to manage all of these when you have a solid plan in place.

How many total subscribers does that equate to if you don't mind me asking?

What I can't seem to get my head around is, if you've build your lists in all of these different niches and eventually you have subscribers in the tens of thousands, if you were to respond to every reply you received from your follow ups.. you wouldn't have enough time in the day to do anything else.

Would it be best not to respond to individual emails, but rather send out a survey once every 1-2 months and then base your content on the information they wanted?

I just have this vision in my head of sitting on my computer for hours on end of only replying to emails and not getting any work done!

        Pat,

I usually only get replies if and when I ask (hint)...

My business has been structured to run by itself for the most part. I have a system so sending content on a timely basis is a non issue. I automate it... It's the system I have created that's the key.

I won't reveal how many subs I have but let's just say I was the creator of the book "Huge List Building Secret" where I generated over 1,200 subs in 3 days and I make a very comfortable living from my lists. I have been heavily involved in list building for the past 5 years and my system has been created over the last 2 years. (A lot of tracking and testing to get it to this point)...

The system I have in place allows me to "work" other income streams and I only spend about 2 hours a day maintaining my lists. I also have a system in place to generate new subscribers on a consistent basis.

        Mike Hill

PS. I've been working on something for the last 6 months and it's almost there!

Mike, I like your process of running your business.

Now there is a product that can be sold or given away...

I definitely think that you do not need to build a list for every niche. Sometimes a onetime sell is all you can get out of that niche.

I dont have a list in every single niche that i am involved in but i would say that my lists involve 80% of them minimum.

Your list can really help with your sales but some niches that i have products in are just quick income streams and the list would turn it into something else.

I personally feel that it will always be good to build a list.

The majority of the customer do not purchase the product when they see the product for the first time.

If the market is a profitable markets, there will be enough affiliate products to promote as backend products.

In my humble opinion, I feel that we will be leaving money on the table if we do not build a list

There should be no question about building a list. Create the opt-in anyway and let your visitors decide.

I have numerous email addresses but I route them all to my main email address and sort them on my PC.

None of these things are daunting if planned and managed properly.

    Pat,

In my opinion, Mike Hill is the guy to ask about this.

Not only did he write the mentioned above "Huge List Building Secret" but he has talked about list building in other reports and ebooks for years.

He also has a set of opt-in templates that I have been using for a couple of years.

I have purchased many of his products and have subscribed to a couple of his lists.

Mike can't toot his own horn here so I will for him.

If you want to learn about list building buy Mike's list building ebooks and products.

I can honestly say that everything that I have tried that Mike has suggested or taught has worked.

      Thanks for the responses, guys.

I'm already on Mike's list and have his templates.

There was never any question whether I was going to collect email addresses or how to organize them, or even how to go about building a list. I understand all of that.

My only concern was how to deal with a huge amount of incoming emails when your list reaches a certain point.

I suppose I'll just try to get back to as many people as I can and also do a monthly or bi-monthly survey/webinar.

Pat, my experience has been that if you go into a good market and handle the list properly, you can make it profitable enough that IF it picks up and grows large then it easily becomes viable to hire someone to handle questions, even set up a help desk using any PHP software and outsource the tending of it, with your support guy telling you if anybody has anything that -really- needs looking at by you personally.

This is taking into account that I do not have my own products yet and build lists and newsletters exclusively out of affiliate offers, so don't take it as gospel or anything
