Going to give niche marketing a shot - advice needed

I do reasonably OK with the things I promote at the moment(mostly affiliate programs) but I've decided I want to try and earn some more money via a specific niche. I've selected and thoroughly researched the niche, the keywords and a domain name, but was wondering what you think the most effective way of going about it is in terms of a site. For now, I'm probably going to use some clickbank products to direct potential customers to, and I may create some of my own in the future. My main question is, is a Wordpress blog the way to go? I already have one and am pretty familiar with all the various functions and plugins so it makes sense. I kinda wanted to see if I could do this entire project for free - could I do it with a free blog or capture page? Any advice on any aspect of this would be greatly appreciated, I want to come back in a few weeks/months sharing my success story and exactly how I did it

Yeah, I'm learning all I can about SEO at the moment - I might use some PPC down the line too I think this is a pretty lucrative niche. I think I'm probably going go buy a new domain and have it hosted alongside my existing hosting account(it's free to do so). I've pretty much decided I'm going to use a Wordpress blog for it, it's familiar to me and should be a good platform for traffic and sales.

I personally like combining a blog with a regular website - with url's like www.mysite.com and blog.mysite.com. The two can work together. Blogs tend to have more credibility, but you're limited in terms of how you can present your products. You might try learning something like Drupal or Joomla for the main site.

The niche is hard to define but lucrative when accopmplished. I work for Answer My Office and we are looking at moving towards a niche advertising platform, currently scary but the benefits could pay massive dividends. I say go for but assess how much you are willing to put into the venture before proceeding.

Do not do anything commercial with a free wordpress blog that sits on THEIR site. Wordpress will close your blog down if you do. If you have your own hosting plan, put a wordpress blog on that hosting service.

Stick with what you know already so keep with wordpress.

Then try and get those top rankings for those keyphrases you have found and look at creating a web 2.0 ring (basicly setup web 2.0 sites such as squidoo/hubpages/wetpaint etc that all link into your main site).

Then also don't forget blog comments on related niche blogs for extra traffic too and yahoo answers if there are any questions there.

Then backlink backlink backlink your site's and articles in article directory's so their rankings climb and you will eventually have top spots and free organic traffic.

That's basicly what you need to do in a nutshell.

Oh and steer clear of PPC until you have cash to burn and cash to spand on learning ppc. It can swallow up all your cash or vomit cash all over you in a nice way.

I do reasonably OK with the things I promote at the moment.

    Hello! Anybody home?

Look again at what you wrote and then tell me why you are thinking about a ground breaking (for you) attempt to earn money when you already are earning reasonably well.

Would it not make sense to build on what you already have and start to earn even better by expanding on what you already KNOW?

Sorry. I'm not an internet marketer so you might find my question difficult to understand but I assure you - if I found something that earned anything at all, I would build on it rather than side-line it.

Maybe your question is the demonstration of why so many internet marketers fail?

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

Blogs are a great way to go because the search engines love them and they rank higher much quicker.
Why don't you have an authotitative site (even if you use RSS feeds to populate some of it). Then point traffic to your ebook site, which can also be on a blog if you want?
Don't forget to capture their names when they come to your ebook site as you want to market to them again and again.

I said 'reasonably OK', not 'reasonably well' By a lot of people's standards(especially right here at the Warrior Forum) I earn very little with the things I do now. By my own standards I do reasonably OK though, and I am always striving to build on what I already know. I've only been in IM for 4 months or so and I'm learning all the title(not least from here). I completely understand where you're coming from, but I feel there's absoloutely no reason why I can't branch out into other areas such as this, I have the time to do it and I'm slowly building the knowledge and experience too

I would go the blogging route. It is so much easier to update than a static html website, plus you have all those great plugins you can use... RSS feeds... All in One SEO... etc...

One should think about WordPress just as a "blogging platform". You can create solid "static-looking" websites with it, with the power of plugins and ease of use still there. And there's the benefit of the site being a blog with the increased credibility as rivulguy mentioned. And I've heard about people trusting blogs more than static websites, so it could be a better choice conversion wise too(?)
