Best Free Product To Build A List

Hello,

I'm trying to build a list in the Internet Marketing Niche. I've tried a lot of various types of advertising media but it all seems to come down to the free product I'm offering to get them to give me their email address. I need a great product that they cannot wait to sign up for...

So, can anyone tell me what free product works best for the IM niche?

Thanks

    1. Something that's relevant to the specific niche within the IM market that you wish to target.

    2. Something with a high perceived value

    3. Something unique that they can only get from you.

    4. Well written copy that attracts their attention, arouses their interest and desire to learn more.

5 A well constructed and powerful call to action.

    6. Reassurance that they can trust you with their email address.

    Interesting observation, here.

For me, in every single niche in which I've ever had an opt-in page, the free product I give in exchange for email addresses is what determines the quality and the open-rates for the list built (much more than it determines the number of subscribers, though I see that it might sometimes be relevant to that, too).

What matters, for me, is that I give away a "free report" (or whatever you call it, in context) that serves all these purposes.

And by definition, that's obviously possible only when I've written it myself (however short it is - and mine tend to be fairly short, which is better, I think, as long it serves all those purposes).

IM is not a "niche": it's a market (and an absolutely huge one).

But I think I can; yes: the answer would have to be "one you've written yourself, which was specifically designed to fulfil those purposes" linked to above.

Otherwise - especially in any IM niches where people are typically on 10+ other marketers' lists and their attention-rates are poor to start with - it can't fulfil its necessary purposes and you'll end up with a 20% open-rate (or even worse!).

It's hard work to produce a good freebie for the opt-in, but not nearly as hard as trying to convince yourself later that "dreadfully low open-rates are normal in this industry"!!

I like to match it to the ppc ad that brought them to the squeeze page. Thats there pain and what they are looking to deal with. I subscribe to the idea of joining the conversation the prospects having in their head.

My squeeze page used to have 3 ideas on that deal with their issue then an option of getting the report/booklet by joining the mailing list. I've actually moved away from the squeeze page but that was workin for me.

A good Freebie gift is something that pre-sells your main offer. It has to be directly connected to whatever you are selling.

By doing that you'll have a higher conversion.

I recall writing my first 'freebie' gift... and by the time I'd finished, a few weeks later - it was a 70 page monster...

I decided right then and there that it was too long, too detailed, and too good to be a freebie. So I turned it into a product instead...

Then I massively condensed and re-wrote it down under 20 pages - and used that as my free gift.

And yes, it does indeed pre-sell my main product.

This is an excellent strategy to use for your free gift - give value, but lead to something of even more value...

Hint... Look in the mirror. That is the product you are trying to brand and sell.

What can you offer that exudes YOU? A short video training course? A great ebook written by you? A webinar?

An incomple report of your main product without some major point they need.

IM is a market not a niche.

Do some research into which niche within the IM world is doing the best (or at least is doing well) and create or find a high quality product based on that particular niche to give away.

I prefer not to think of it that way... my free gift answers the question of why list building is the way to go, and then goes into detail about how much it will cost you - how much it will REALLY cost you - to get started.

Which is naturally a pre-sell into a manual on list building.

But it's not that my free gift isn't complete in and of itself - it's just narrowly focused. And people I think understand that a free gift is going to be narrowly focused, and not a complete solution to a major problem.

But tying together your free gift along with your main product simply makes sense to me - even though when I originally did it, it was purely by accident.

Make a product and give this away. But before giving that away you've to believe that the product have a value not rehashed products.

Just as with any "niche" it depends on what you're selling.

Like a piano player buddy (R.I.P. Les) of mine used to always say, "Give 'em a great show and leave 'em wanting more!"

The more value that you give away, the more your list subscribers will trust you to deliver value when you try to sell something. JMHO.

How to Create a FREE Report that People Quickly and Easily Exchange Their Email for.

In high school we had to buy a little report, which was how to write reports. It covered everything from citations, like ibid and all that good stuff.

So, it was THE example to use to write any report.

Use the great info in this thread, quickly create your FREE report on How to Create Free reports...and Presto...there you go.

Ebook, videos, etc... all these are great, but a good software or wordpress plugin can be a huge lead magnet.

You will then need to tweak your squeeze page.

If you are in the Facebook niche, think about a software that people need. Better yet, ask them, and watch out for the other softwares in the niche.

Apply this to your own niche.

The way I do it (and I think is the best way to do it):

I test before making the product.

    That is to say:

I make various squeeze pages, promising a free guide or watever (with the description of the freebie in the squeeze page, ie: 'inside you wil llearn 1-blablba 2 blablab3..)
Eventually, after seending few hundred clicks to each squeeze page (all being with same traffic source and being tracked , paid traffic source ofc), I see which squeeze page is having the best conversion rate, and this means this sqeeze page is describing the products I should be making.

Easy and simple. Dont do the work before testing if people want your work.

It is Lean business thinking and it will save you tons of hours of work. Never try to guess what is gonna work , test what is working! you never know what people will want.

Sure people who optin to these 'test squeeze pages' will never get any of the stuffs I ve promised, but it is okay, it s just a tiny portion of ppl , and i am aiming to sell to thousands of people.

Also, yes I am spending a bit of money which wil bring no return (typicaly less than 100 dollars though), but it is not money wasted, it is money spent to learn something very valuable.

I am aiming to make at the very least 10k a month from that campaign, I can spend 100 dollars in testing.

Have you tried searching the various IM forums for ideas? Search around and look for what people are asking there. What kind of problems do they need answers to.....Give it to them.

    1. Find out what the market TRULY wants and NEEDS.

    2. Find out where those people hang out.

    3. Tell them about your solution.

    4. Get them onto your list

    5. Build relationships with them.

    6. Sell them your products and services.

Think about the customer. What do they want? Internet marketers want to learn how to make money, drive fb traffic, convert visitors. So make you free gift relevant e.g free guide on how to make your 1st (whatever amount) online, free guide on how to drive fb traffic etc. This applies to any market.

I literallty over the last week, have written me "free gift" and then edited my Email capture offering my giveaway.

My giveaway is a 15 page pdf that they can download and very relevent to my website and what I want to sell, which is at the moment, consultations within my niche.

As long as your content on your website is good or better, and rhe giveaway is relevent and very good, then your list will build.

The title of my giveaway is "12 Dteps To Fitness Success"

There are people who have given away whole books, like 60+pages long and then they sell consultations on how to implement what is read in the book.

Offer value and they will sign up and continue reading.

Can you PM me or give me your Skype for a more indepth chat about it?

A couple more "musts" to add for your freebie:

    1) Make sure it's ultra-specific

Example - an eBook on Facebook ads (not specific) vs a report on how to properly target using Facebook ads (ultra-specific)

    2) Provide immediate gratification

None of that multi-day course nonsense. Give them something short and sweet, and something that will bring them results NOW.

      - I have had great results with some 7days email course. Can you expand what is wrong with it? and is it your personal data/test that tells you you should not do this, or just a gut-feeling?

      - I agree with "specific", but you could also do "multiple specific" , typically 7 specific mini guides for a 7 days course.

      "Nonsense"... Really?

Why not do both? Give them instant gratification
as soon as they sign up and then give them even
more great content over a multi-day course... It's
not just about getting a confirmed optin, it's also
about building your credibility and getting them to
buy into remaining on your list.

Agreed. But we're talking about the free product here. Not the follow-up.

Surely the idea of giving away a free gift to get their email address just attracts "freebie seekers"

Why not do a low cost report? At least then from day one you are attracting real buyers not freebie seekers

Try split testing that hypothesis and then compare income
for the first month, six months, life of a subscriber. You may
then see which generates the best ROI...

A great freebie is important, but probably not as important as jumping in and giving "something" away. Take action and get them on your list. Then provide awesome content in your emails. Once they're on your list, that's where the real money is made.

You can make a free video on generating traffic, Facebook tips, Pinterest etc. Or, you can get a free PLR report and rewrite it or have someone on Fiverr rewrite it for you. If you do it yourself you can ad your own personal touch but many people just don't have the time.

Get something together and get it out there. Then...you can test it against other ideas and freebies. You'll never know for sure without testing and testing again.

Even if you give away an amazing freebie...you might think of something better.

Freebies are good but not so good for the make money online niche. Launching giveaways for them don't even do well with good prizes because giveaway entrants don't seem to trust those types of businesses.

I would say giveaway a free PPC strategy or something like that.

This is research you need to do yourself. First of all you need to identify the exact target market you are going after. People who want to make money online is too broad. You need to be more specific and find a sub-niche. Once you have found the people you want to target it will be much easier to find out their biggest problems and be able to come up with free solutions to solve those problems for them.
