Just in case you haven't noticed it's the 1st July
today and that means it's the start of the second
half of 2009.

So, as in most sports, it's a good time to check
on the scores, to give yourself a pep talk and to
go back onto the field motivated to win.

Did you set yourself a set of goals for 2009?

If you did, evaluate your progress.

If you didn't, set yourself goals for the rest of the
year.

Look to see which part of your business is the most
successful and do more of that.

Look to see where your results are under par, invest
time in improving where necessary.

Apart from the obvious profit, what other criteria do
you use to measure your success?

One thing I monitor closely is my refund rate (currently
2.26%) what else do you monitor?

    John,

Thanks for the reminder but isn't this halftime locker room speech a little wimpy?

Where are all of the obscenities? Screaming things at us like "Don't drop the ball now"!

What about the threat of hiking up yer kilt

My ****ing ears are burning. LOL

    I kid, I kid.

I don't usually do a halftime analysis - December is when I analyze but you're right - we should. Recently, I started analyzing my whole reliance on the world of web 2.0 and realized I was taking the easy way because it was all I felt I could understand technically.

My goal now is to help other tech dummies get past that obstacle and we'll own our own content and be our own damn boss (an extra swear word for you Johnny baby).

I have been working on catching up with new technology and Web 2.0 because I felt the same way.

I've been doing things so "Old School" that I'm still trying to get my Geocities site listed on HotBot

In addition to looking at my key metrics, I find that
there are other criteria that are more important in
    measuring my success.

Sure, they may be a bit 'soft and fluffy' but they keep
me on track and ensure that I enjoy my success rather
than just focusing on the numbers.

Here's some of my success criteria that I check-in on:

    1. Gut - How do I feel about my business? Is it going in
the right direction or is it time for a tweak or revamp?

I use my gut to point me in the right direction to get
    even more success.

    2. Contribution - How well am I contributing to the
success of my prospects and customers and how can
    I increase this?

The more I help people achieve what they want, the
more easily I achieve what I want.

    3. Lifestyle - How much am I enjoying my life inside
and outside my business? How many hours do I want
to work in my business, on my business and away from
    my business?

A regular check-in on these 'metrics' helps me to stay
on track and adjust as I go along - and enjoy the journey.

Success is an inner game, so I monitor my inner game
    constantly.

Sure, outer scores are important but my key focus is
am I fulfilled and am I helping others?

Of course. I do look at my numbers but they're just not
    my first port of call.

Inside Success + Outside Success = Real Success

Inside Failure + Outside Success = Real Failure

(Look at Michael Jackson - he had the biggest selling album
of all time but still felt a failure inside).

That's my 2 million cents anyways.

    Dedicated to your success,

I never realised until this year how important gut feeling is in this business. While I've not yet reached my goals for this year, I have for the first time a gut feeling that I last I know what it takes and I'm on my way. So the next six are exciting for me.
