So I just quit my 60k a year job to work full time in IM!

Hi all again, you may of previously seen my thread about taking my IM career to the next level. Well I am very pleased to say I handed my notice in last week and as of yesterday I am working full time on my IM career.

I have been working on a blog for roughly a year now and its steadily earning around the 2-3k a month mark with not much monthly work involved. Quite a big step but I am in a position where I can financially live happily for the next 4 months without earning any additional income. I got some great advice in my last thread and at the end of the day I have decided to do what I want to do not what I have to.

For everyone asking what I did or how I got to this stage its been a roller-coaster really for the last 4 - 5 years in IM. I had some short term success but nothing long term until recent times. I have learnt so much from this forum. Income wise is from adsense, affiliates and a bit of on site advertising.

I am taking it as my full time job working 8 - 5 Mon - Friday with some weekends depending how I am doing and how much work I put in during the week. Or as much work is required!

Its both exciting and in some ways scary but I am 110% confident I will be successful and will be sure to update everyone after the 1 month mark.

I welcome any advice from anyone who has been in a similar position to me and what they did to succeed. Also thanks to ratracegrad! So much useful info on your site.

Branch out away from Adsense dependent income. Whenever people say "Adsense" it makes me nervous. Not really sustainable as Google can nuke it without warning.

I hope you are building a list from your site visitors.

Yes and yes. adsense is just additional income not so much my main source and it has its ups and downs. Main source is affiliate should of mentioned that. But yea as with affiliates I have learnt its better to have a few sources rather than being dependant on one.

List building yes! Looking back I had so many visitors that I could of converted into subscribers just by giving them the option. But we live and learn I suppose

    Congratulations.

Personally I would have waited until I at least was able to match my monthly job income for 3-6 months (more like 6 though), then made the decision.

I was in the same position last year. I had surpassed my monthly in January and by July 3rd when I "got myself fired," I was making triple in my own business.

From that point on, let's just say its been an amazing 14 months

You have to understand now that there is no "safety blanket" of your job to keep you afloat, so you better make sure you get on the grind and stay on it because it's all on you now.

    Best of success to you

Great advice! Yea it was getting to the stage at work where I was getting more and more distracted less interested in work and more interested in how many conversions I had the night before

I could of waited but why wait worst case is it doesn't work out in 4 - 5 months time and I just get a new job. Its a risk sure but why not take the risk. One thing is for certain a lot of work required over the next few months

Congrats, Palmer!! At least you didn't quit your job with stars in your eyes, thinking you'll be making 6 figures a year in no time. You've got a steady income from your efforts, some money saved up to get you through at least a few months, and it sounds like you're approaching it with a good work ethic and like a real business, not a hobby. Those are all positives!

    Congrats on the leap!

You say you're doing affiliate sales... are you able to create your own products in the future?

That's what I'd be working on next if you're really wanting to boost your income.

What type of internet marketing will you be doing once you work full time? I was able to quite my 9-5 after starting offline where the money is (FOR ME) I can do web development and get $2000-$5000 a pop instead of $500 and make a "decent" monthly income. Unless I missed it in this thread itself, what field are you in?

    Congratulations,

I did the same in 2012 and never looked back. I was a bit scared at the time but today I am proud of myself for quitting my day job and creating a successful online business.

Keep working hard and I bet you will never regret it.

Congratulations! As a person who has worked most of my life for myself, I can tell you I know with confidence that a job is false security. They can be bought out or downsized or any number of things and they won't hesitate to eliminate the job.

The only security anyone really has at the end of the day is in themselves. What a person does and the action they take is what builds that security. When you're self employed, no one can fire you except yourself with lack of action.

All the best to you and keep taking action,
    Michael

That's great news. Really sounds like you're feeling the fear...and doing it anyway!

I too have been working for myself for the majority of my working life and I totally agree that a job is not security at all. Only YOU can create your own reality and your own security so go forward.

    Good luck for the future!

Awesome to read this, I too make a good income in my FT job as a network engineer which I am not very tempted to give up at all. I did however have some success in the past doing CPA but gave up. I have never really been able to pull myself away from IM and have always felt I could do more and keep reading the message boards.

If you actually quit your job I'm sure your gut told you that you could make it in IM full time and I wish you the best of luck!

quit your job to do internet marketing. I turned
to internet marketing because I had no job! So you
are starting at a huge advantage--you have savings from
    your full-time job.

    Well, congrats anyway.
