What is your best tools to study a market ?

Hello Warriors,

I need your help.

I am currently preparing a new niche webseite, but of course I had to check the market potential first.

Here is the question : what are the tools you are currently using to do this ?

I used to use Market Samurai some years ago, but I would like know to update my knowledhe

Could you please help me ?

    Hi,

    There really are so many tools you can use for this it is crazy. Market Samurai is ok, however in my opinion Long Tail Pro Platinum is the tool of choice for me. I like the fact it looks at more metrics than just what is pulled from adwords and bing. The first page analysis function is really good as well.

    I use platinum because I like the extra functionality so i cant comment on how useul the lower packages would be.

        Then market samurai, keyword planner, LTP and Bing keyword tool are all good to get a rough idea of a markets potential.

    A good tool would be Alexa, they have both a free and paid version. With Alexa it will break down the whole market for you, to help get a grasp of where you might need to be.

    Focusing mainly on information product publishing, my top intitial research spots are:

    - Forums in my niche
    - Blog directories and articles (to guage which posts are gaining the most participation )
    - YouTube - again I study the videos for which ones are getting watched the most and comments
    - Amazon (of course....)
    - Google Search around my topics to find other products and offerings

    You will note this all centers around studying dialog and/or commercial activity - always start here THEN you can go find the best keywords to help target these areas as well as an opening to differentiate your offering within the competition.

      Yes. I wouldn't pay for a tool. All the information you need is out there for free. Most of what you need to look for is activity.

      I use google mostly:
      • Google Trends
      • Google Keyword Planner
      • Google SERPs

      Then I use things like what jbsmith said to pinpoint what's getting consumed:
      • SubReddits
      • YouTube
      • Blogs
      • Forums
      • etc.

    - Libraries
    - Listen to radio (trends whats hot - icebucketing)
    - NBC - stories / niches / ideas
    - Magzines
    - Google trends (visit every week)

    Just some ideas, but have made us lots of money over the last 24 months. :-)
