I am going to release a 500+ page book about sports history (Kindle & Print). It has pictures, site/social stuff, will probably be picked up by major sports reporters because of my connections.

I'm just curious about your thoughts on advertising on Facebook. Do you think it's more important to collect e-mail addresses, or spend money on FB. We were thinking of 1-1500 per month in this particular sports niche, but not sure if it will monetize.

This isn't a tacky sales page "FIND OUT MORE" etc, it's a historical book, with a professional website and linked to Amazon (Createspace).

What are your overall thoughts on marketing such a valuable piece of content on Social Media? How would you go about doing it. I'm releasing this in the next 2 weeks.

Why is it collect email addresses "OR" spend money on FB...they're two separate actions...and you should probably do both.

Suggest that you will want to test the sales page and/or sales funnel before rolling money into advertising unless running some test ads is one of the methods you want to use to generate initial traffic for testing.

Assuming you had a sales page and/or product that converts, the absolutely you can consider targeted FB advertising those who have obvious affinity for sports.

This is a big question to answer.

As Nate suggested: I wouldn't limit yourself to one or the other. 2 weeks is not very much time to plan a marketing campaign and I have no idea what traffic you have on your own platforms. All I can suggest at this stage is general media buying.

We don't have any traffic because of legal issues relating to the book. It will be a 4 month campaign. The marketing will begin when the book is released to the public and we can publicize the website/social media.

You should use pay per click and make sure that you collect their name and email so that you can follow up with them.

If you can make a good profit after you invested $1500, you can always scale things up to make more.

I want to toss you another idea, separate from Facebook.

Hunt down a bunch of the blogs covering viral items, like The Fancy, Crnchy, Indulgd, Web Urbanist, Design Taxi, The Awesomer, and others. Offer them a free "Kindle" version of your book to get them writing about it.

Make sure you give them the Amazon sales page so they can attach their affiliate ID.

They will all share their posts on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Reddit, etc...

Just a thought...since these guys are always looking for cool things to share to a largely male audience..

You should go into a different niche altogether. So far what i've read about the project is making my head spin. Just go for some easy cash. It's everywhere online. Small niche, backend products, leads, sales, autopilot... you could spend about 1 hour a day on your business. The goal is to stop working and do whatever you want to do in life right? I would bypass all the hassle and hurdles and go straight to the money pot. I could care less about fame lol.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will dabble in everything I can. I like Barry's suggestion about sharing a free review copy. This was one of our goals, especially a well known sports writer at ESPN or something. Authority Links would be a big booster. Any other ideas would be a greatly appreciated.

This is a HUGE book about sports history, and will be high in demand.
