Philippines Work at Home Employee

I have a great employee in the Philippines who would like to work from home. She left a outsourcing place that I used to work with. I was wondering if there is a inexpensive office she can report to that has VOIP, internet, and a computer. It would be awesome if this place also dealt with payroll.

I was also wondering if any others work with Philippines payroll companies on here to pay contractors, I am aware that there a lot of payroll taxes like in the USA for government services. Also there is the 13th month pay.

She lives in Pasig in metro Manila.

    From how I understand your post = You would still want to work with your Filipina contractor, but she has left the company that you were contracting her services from, and she does not have VoIP, Internet connectivity and a computer at her place, so you want her to find an office where she can access these things, and you want to know how you can pay her for her services while she's working with you as your direct independent contractor, correct?

        I assume (possibly because of all the things involved, or for any of your reasons) you don't want to help her set up a stable computer with the hardware (at least a 6-month old PC with at least 2.50 Ghz processing power, 512 DDRII and a 80 Gb HDD, along with a wireless headset with a good mic) and software (updated Windows OS and other programs that she needs so as to do her daily tasks) along with a reliable high speed Internet connection with sufficient GUARANTEED bandwidth for VoIP (at least 350 Kbps) and a VoIP account (from a good provider like Phone.Com) at her own place with a quiet private room to do her daily tasks, correct?     She could probably make a deal with an internet cafe to have 8 hours of access per day at a discounted rate. I'd suspect it would cost her around 250 php per day.

    If you hire her as a contract worker, she is self-employed and you are not responsible for all those taxes. You may want to pay her slightly more so she can continue making payments for PhilHealth and Pag-Ibig, but that is not your obligation.

    Or...

    You could help her get setup in her home. She could buy a used computer for around 5,000php, get internet access for around 1500php/month, and pickup a good headset to use for VOIP for around 300php. You would need to provide her with the VOIP equipment or account you want her to use. (I used Google Voice extensively in the Philippines and it worked fantastic.)

    Those would be the approaches I would pursue...based on my 5 years in the Philippines.

      I wouldn't trust someone working from an internet cafe, they're not safe places at all for personal/private data, let alone transactions.

      But the other options listed above sound good.

    I don't understand how she became your employee before if she doesn't have her own internet connection at home and a personal computer?

    Today, internet here is inexpensive. For as low as $22 a month, she can have a fast internet connection capable of VOIP.

    It will be 10x more expensive if she were to do it in internet cafe plus it is not secure and her work will be disorganized.

    You could have her look at co-working spaces in that area. I know there are a few there in Manila. Here in Davao, we have a co-working space that offers all that (except for payroll) for a monthly rate.

    Instead of finding an office for that Filipina, you may just want to help her set-up her own system at home. If she is short in budget, give her an advanced salary (subject for deduction). Plus, you are not obliged to pay her SSS, PAGIBIG, PhilHealth, and tax. Perhaps, you may offer a salary that's slightly higher than the minimum so she can pay her SSS, PAGIBIG, and Philhealth on her own.

      You got it. She's my recruitment assistant. I am a healthcare recruiter. She is asking for $460 per month USD. Does that sound reasonable? She has a Bachelors in Nursing and her English is a 8.5/10.

        Yes. $460 Is a reasonable price. 460 * 42 = 19320php. Its a fair price.

        Not only is it reasonable, for someone with her qualifications, and with the fact you know she is reliable, it is a bargain.

        I'd go back to a few of the original answers about setting her up with her own equipment. Offer to buy the computer and initial setup for the internet, but you will deduct the cost of the equipment over the next 12 to 18 months.

        $460.00 a month is not bad for a reliable and honest VA, Jacob.
        I once referred the owner of the Philippine-based content marketing company I have been using to one of my British clients who set-up a business in the Philippines. He was offered $1,000.00 a month just for my British client to pick his brain on how to run a content writing company, but he declined the offer.

        Check on the commitment level of your VA, too. You don't want to set-up a system for a long-term type of commitment only to find out that your VA is saving up to go abroad. Have you asked her if she has pending applications in other companies?

    If you really like her then give her a full set of computer and tell her to apply for internet connection. Usually it would take 1 to 3 weeks depend on the provider. While waiting you can tell her to buy a USB internet device but tell her to ask around which internet provider is faster on her area.

    The cheapest way to pay her is through PayPal just say you are paying the money to a friend or family she would need a checking account and a PayPal account connected to bank. You call also pay her through money gram witch will cost you about 10 dollars each payment.

    I agree, with dlinq above. While we have tried many ways, paypal still seems the best.

    Phillipininoes are basically not entrepreneurs, they just have the mindset of work, and get paid, but you dont want to piss them off, let me assure you of that.

    Just as long as you both agree on a good way to pay, and make things easy for you and them, things will go well.

    $460 is quite reasonable. I pay my employees a lot more than that (from the same area). It sounds like she is quite experience, so yes, I would buy her a computer of find a way to make it work. All the best.

    Yes, I've tried zoom before and it's also good. In Pampanga, I think PLDT is still good as it's using a line compare to WIFI which is usually disconnected.
