What are the best Social Plugins for a Membersite?

I am also rebuilding our member site on WordPress I think we are going to use Wishlist too.

My question is what are the best plugins to make my 1000 member site addictive?

I have really good content and our live events have a ton of energy but it does not translate to our member site.

I know forums and social plugins are the key but which ones?

I love vBulletin as a forum but does it work with WP so if a member does not pay they get automatically shut out from the forum too?

What type of Facebook type plugins are there so my members can communicate with each other inside the membersite?

Are there any quirky things that I can put on the site to keep them coming back?

Is there a plugin so people can post their deal $ and compete with each other? (My site is for Investors) Like a brag board...

there's bbpress (bbpress.org) and simplepress (simplepressforum.com) for forums ..both share the wordpress user database and are free

there's WordPress › WP Private Messages WordPress Plugins

not too sure about the last one, i didn't really look too much into it, but if there isn't and it's an established site, if you feel like that feature would be beneficial to your community you should have a custom plugin developed

just my 2c
