Hi Warrior, A few months back I started using amazon s3 for all the media in my blogs. I have experienced faster loading of pages and reduced CPU usage. I am taking backups of my wp-database every 24 hours. But as you know the media is not included in this backup (ie the files in wp-content folder). The number and size of the files in the amazon buckets are too large and I cannot have them downloaded to the PC, it would take too long. Are my files safe, or if you recommend taking backup what would be the best option? |

Nothing can be guaranteed and S3 comes with no guarantee that customer data will not be lost so it is a judgement call. The site blurb says "It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, fast, inexpensive data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites." so if its good enough for Amazon it is probably good enough for most small businesses. Their requirements included "Store data durably, with 99.99% availability. There can be no single points of failure. All failures must be tolerated or repaired by the system without any downtime." Having another backup reduces your risks so why not do a risk assessment of what you have uploaded and take a copy of the critical elements which cannot easily be replaced. |
