Hi - I've been trying out Ubuntu recently (9.04) and gradually trying to get it to do most of what I can do on the XP setup. I've managed to run a few small Windows apps via the Wine emulator when necessary. Anybody got any reccommendations or spotted any major drawbacks when doing marketing with the Linux OS?

thanks,

Jon Jenkins

I find Ubuntu 9.04 quite nice... I work with it for several weeks now... I do not have a need to use any "tools" on it but I can run several programs, although the only 2 drawbacks that I've noticed is that:
    1. KDevelop doesn't work properly (I'm a IT/electronics specialist so I do programming)
    2. when installed, Adobe Air doesn't allow me to add .air packages, thus I can not install Market Samurai, which is the only tool i ever need...

Depending on what you need you can usually find apps for linux that do the same thing than the windows one.

As far as using linux on a daily basis for a desktop i would say why not....but why?

I am a huge linux fan but i still think it is not ready for the desktop for the average user.

Ok, I have seen this question a few times lately, and I actually had the same question myself, so I took the dive and made it all work... I'm going to start a new thread about this to help everyone out... I'll post a link to it in here when it's done.
