refund request in under 1 minute

I hate people who scam other people. Just had a guy ask for a refund in 60 seconds from a 150 page, no fluff, eBook. He THEN went back to get his bonuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There will always be a few of these jerks. If your software allows it, block him from being able to buy anymore of your stuff in the future.

Not worth the headaches...refund and sell to other, more grateful buyers.
I've had it with paypal disputes...just not worth it.

I guess this is part of the downside of marketing to the IM ring (are you?), especially after the buzz that CB actually refund people easily, which most might not notice about it prior to the buzz.

Anyway, as a merchant, customers are always the King and like what others have said, try marketing to genuine customers as they are the ones that are likely to come back to you or more.

Indeed-the worst thing that you could face is a bad reputation. You don't want that, so just give the money back and protect any rep that you've built up.

This has nothing to do with the niche- there are scammers like this all over.

        Im not in IM niche.

I'm a little shocked that people behave like this so blatantly.

Don't get me wrong,. Ive asked for refunds from CB before, but only after I felt that there genuinely was no value and Ive always given a good chance to the vendor...It usually takes more than a minute to do that.

            Hey man,

Sorry to hear about that. As harsh as it sounds, some people just truthfully and genuinely suck.

Screw him though. You're the guy who's going to be successful/has been successful with your product, someone like that probably won't even read it. He'll stick it on his hard drive and then wonder why his life is crappy and never changes.

People like that bug me, does it show?

Anyway, keep your chin up and get past it...

Maybe you could put your info on CDs and only give out a small portion as a download. We have been using CDs now and it's much better.

There are ways to lock your electronic products, too, then de-activate the code once people get a refund. Check around this forum for the preferred tools for this.

I feel ya, us as marketers deal with this practically every day or at least a few times every new product launch we do....

I would recommend protecting your products the best ways possible and there are many ways to do this, I got so sick of scammers pulling stunts like this and getting away with it, I literally have taken my time and built a custom tool one for software and one for scripts (takes me even less time then the 60 seconds the scammers use to get a refund for me to suspend their software or script from working lol)

Basically the tool allows me to lock the products up once a scammer pulls a stunt like this, if it is a software it will stop working, and if it is a script it will display a message on their website where the script is installed which the message can say whatever I want it to say (easily changed via my admin panel) but it will basically make everything stop working that they tried to steal from me,

No I’m not advertising my product by making this post (that's why you dont see a link to it)... just simply letting you know how frustrated I was with the situation as well that I took matters into my own hands and started locking up my software so to speak... just saying there are always going to be people out there like this no matter what we do, so the best way is to setup our products with security eventually word will spread if you get a refund the product wont work no more and it may cut down on some of this crap!

Like another warrior suggested search through the forum and look for recommended solutions to what everyone is using these days to accomplish protecting their software and scripts from scammers…

Either way your time is more valuable so my advice just refund the moron and move on and put your focus and energy into making more money from honest customers... Karma will bite this guy in the rear......

If you need any assistance regarding any of this or want my opinion about the best routes to go to protect your products feel free to contact me… I’m always glad to offer my advice and help another warrior especially to top SCUM bags like this from getting products for free…. (even though there are no ways to protect yourself really from the scammers and them getting their money back, there are ways to rip your product back out of their evil dirty little hands and let them know nothing in this world is FREE)

I'm sure there is a way to disable viewing of the ebook when you've given the refund. You may want to look into it. No sense it letting them get the product for free.

Don't think burning in hell has anything to do with "Karma", but yes, "those who scam will one day be scammed themselves".

That is a little over the top. I certainly would NEVER wish anyone to spend an eternity in hell for refunding an ebook. Is that really your thought process?

I agree. Excellent idea. I suggested something similar the other day. I'll contribute. Personally, I think we should. It's not uncommon for like businesses to band together to protect themselves. What would really help would be for the third party affiliate (CB, CJ, Paydotcom, etc) to compile their own, or even Paypal. (Don't hold your breath though.)

WKP only works with exe files, and any pdfs are converted to exes so it's not ideal for ebooks.

What you really need to do is place one or more relevant, irresistible cpa or 'free' continuity offers in the book or in a followup email so you are almost guaranteed of some $ return. Think of it as insurance against refunders and file sharers.

With all the mention of deactivating this you would think that someone should create a program or a service that they can offer to people that makes it possible to see what ever message that someone wanted to be seen when this product is then distributed or when it is opened by the person that stole it. So they buy it and then ask for a refund then distribute it via any means.
They do this in a manner that you know they are in effect stealing from you then you go in and activate this program and it says something like the product you are viewing was stolen and you are unable to see the contents to get the contents fairly and legally please go to productwebsite.com.
I am sure that someone out there has the ability to create this and it may already be available.

Just for fun, a fellow who used to work in the computer science division at the university I went to did that with the Active EBook Compiler.

I dont know how he did it but he got a message to come up that said something like "Hello hacker. Your IP has been reported to the FBI" or something great like that. I bet that would scare the pants off of a few serial refunders!

I just went and checked out the White Knight Protection and ended up signing up. I also tested and uploaded a couple of ebooks of mine this afternoon. This is pretty cool. I also posted a refund question on here a few days ago, when I was really frustrated with getting blatantly ripped off, but having to "grin and bear it" because I'm a vendor and its "the cost of doing business." I disagree with that philosophy.

Can you imagine any off-line business or manufacturer saying "well yeah, he's a shoplifter, a thief, and he's making illegal copies of my product and giving them away, but you know, boys will be boys, it's just the cost of doing business!!" Last I heard, store "slippage" was a major concern and shoplifting was a crime. How is this any different?

While I agree, legitimate refunds are a part of the business, and i have no problem with giving them, for whatever reason, ebook theft is growing. Any responsible business owner seeing a threat to his/her profits should take action to protect it. My refund rate is extremely low, like 1%, and by far, you can smell fraud on most of them. I'm not in this business to give away my intellectual property. End of story. (and rant...sorry)

I went to the WKP site to see what they had to offer. I have to tell you that it took me fifteen seconds to figure out how to get around it. $20 a month isn't worth it in my opinion. The work around is so simple I would think that the technical folks here could have figured it out. I am not technical but it was easy to see how to work around it.

The best idea in my mind is the affiliate links. You might lose one sale to a refund, but you stand the chance of gaining others. If you get a habitual refunder, then you need to flag them and not allow they to buy. In my opinion.

There are ways around that. Try giving your customers a special bonus that only matures after 30 days. That'll put him in a tight spot!

            Samuel, Great point there!

I learnt this only last week.

It is about minimising refund. => Spread out the bonuses over the emails sent to the subscribers over a period of time. This keeps the subscribers looking forward to every of your emails.

In the earlier emails, tell them that as loyal subscribers, they will be receiving undisclosed bonuses over the next few weeks. This will keep them subscribed to your list.

Test it out and your refund rate will drop.

            Cheers,
            John

The bonus after the refund period is a great idea to reduce refund rates, but there will always be a few jerks who KNOW they're going to request a refund (no matter how good the product is) before they even purchase it.

Part of the business, I guess.

You can always have your guarantee like this

Use it for a full 30 days to see for yourself... then after the full 30 days if you're not completely satisfied my 100% iron clad money back guarantee will kick in.

This way if they ask in 60 seconds you can point them to the 30/60/90 day guarantee

Pass word gates would be associated with a user account, and if you ban that they can just create another. IP bans wouldn't work because IPs are generally dynamic. I'm not sure how you could make this work effectively.

Paypal does not force you to refund for a digital product. In fact the dispute will go your way on any intangible.

Customer service is important but you don't have to let people abuse you. This isn't Wal-Mart after all and you probably got into business in the first place so you could call the shots, so to speak.

So one option is to just not give the refund in a case like this.
