Why is there so much spam online?

I receive a LOT of spam on my comment section, all my email addresses and even some on Facebook. Most of it looks terribly unprofessional and I was wondering what kind of person clicks on those V1agra messages Because some people must click on them otherwise no one would bother right?

Add CAPTCHA to the commenting module in your blog to prevent bots from spamming.

They are all blocked automatically by Disqus but I still see them in the comment manager.

I agree they are for backlinks and SEO purposes but God can only understand why people continually think this is a solid way to do SEO

But also you would be surprised how many gullible people who do click on those Viagra links

They're not there for people to click on. They're there as backlinks.

These idiots are still stuck in the mindstate that they can use automated software to spam their links to tens of thousands of blogs and it'll benefit them in some way. I don't see too many of the Viagra ones anymore, but I get a ton of "Optimize your site" and "Climb higher in the SERPS" spam on my blogs.

I don't rely on search engines for traffic, but if I did, I definitely wouldn't be hiring some idiot advertising via mass spam. They're as bad as the people who monitor for new domain names to be bought and send out mass e-mails to people who don't enable privacy protection.

Majority of Wordpress comments are spam because people are using automatic SEO programs to generate potential back-links to their webpage. Add a Captcha to post, block certain emails or even installing a simple plug-in to block certain signals.
