Where to sell/auction off your old established domain names?

I have had a couple of established domain names for at least 6 years now always planning on doing something with them, but never gotten around to so they have been dust in the backburner, but decided it's time to just let them go.

Where can I sell my domain names online or auction them off?

    GoDaddy Auctions
    Website Broker
    Digital Point

Just to name a few. You could also try the new domain selling site WF just opened.

I've been domaining for a few years.

Aside from the already mentioned suggestions, all good, I'll suggest 2 more (there are hundreds, but you'll have sufficient with these and the above):

    - DNForum
    - Direct contact

The first is self-explanatory. The second involves researching who would be interested, based on their own websites, and making direct contacts. For a certain type of domain, I can usually close deals in 48 hours with a direct approach. I'd look into this as well as doing the other options. Out of interest, what are the domains? No worries if you don't want to say here.

There are two types of customers for domains: resellers and end users.

Direct contact is the only realistic way to reach endusers, who will typically pay much better.

Every other method will get you to resellers, who will be expecting reseller pricing, which means leaving enough room for them to make a profit.

If you aren't afraid to do a little work (research and sales), then you can do much better.

If you just want to dump them and move on, try the sites listed above, as well as ebay and nampros.com

P.S. You haven't given us any indication of the quality of the names. Usually, they suck. If they are not superior quality, you are better off just trying to dump them for anything you can get or abandoning them to drop.

Direct contact is one option, but it has a declining success rate as the web development industry matures and doesn't place the same value upon domains anymore.

That's not to say that good domains don't sell for good prices anymore. They do, and will for the foreseeable future. Domain sellers just need to understand what makes a domain good and not fall into the trap of registering and renewing garbage (the average domainer's portfolio is full of total garbage).

Here in 2014 your best bet at maximizing sale prices is to catch the end user at their early development stage when they are searching for available domains. That is by far your #1 target, not some random business that you emailed because they already own a similar domain.

Some great info in this thread.

Will just add that the biggest sales come from private lists. Over the past 2 decades I've built up a list of contacts (not newsletter list) and I know whom to notify of domains that land in my portfolio; likewise, they know when to contact me. If you're new or newish at this, you won't have such a list, but making direct contact is the best way to secure high-paying deals. What you want are people who intend to develop the property; or, in rare cases, serious domainers who have the contacts to get decent resale prices. Your best bet, therefore, is emailing anyone who has displayed an interest in this type of domain. Anyone connected to any similar properties.
