Internet marketing via blog contests

I see so many different contests on blogs that are sponsored by high companies and even web hosting companies who give away free domain and hosting to the winners. These type of contests drive traffic to your blog and i was thinking to start a contest like this. Is it really good for internet marketing purpose? If you ever did it, what's the best place for getting sponsors for these type of contests?
Any help/suggestions are appreciated
Thanks

It depends on your niche but you can usually find some people willing to help. For example, it is not uncommon for people to approach me for a contest to give away a copy of phpLD for their contest on a directory related site.

I think the main thing I look for is the traffic that I believe I will receive by giving away a free copy. If they haven't put much effort into their site, then I tell them to get back with me later.

These contests can be really effective in increasing traffic and feed subscribers but the price (reputation wise) does not seem worth it. Its like you actually bribe people(e.x refer 1 people 1 entry, compulsory subscription to enter the contest)

To retain or maybe even improve your reputation, you should conduct a contest with no strings attached, and doing so will not result in traffic.

Sounds like you have a good list of prizes for your contest. I'm sure a lot of people could use hosting or a domain. I think the next step will be promoting the contest. How do you plan to do that?

Am I the only one who doesn't bother participating in this kind of contests? Either I'm very lazy or these contests really do suck at making people participate, or both.

Sponsors are usually my own friends so i appreciate their help in this matter. Btw i have not yet decided how to promote it and all and i really appreciate any kind of suggestions for this. I will surely do something good for promotion whenever i will start the contest.

You are not the only one because some people are really lazy to take part in contests because they think the prize will go to just one person :p
I am planning to give some special prize to everyone who will participate but let's see whats going to happen

Good luck with your contest. I'm sure there are lots of people who would love to get hosting or a domain. You just have to make sure you promote in front of these people. I know there are a couple of "young webmaster" type forums out there that might be a good place to start.
