hi,
I was just wondering that everyone had to start somewhere
SO wanted to ask the veteran IM's

how long did it take you to make your 1st dollar online?
and what IM method and niche did you start with?

  • For me it took 12 days after I monetised my videos on youtube and that was the first buck I even made online.

      One week.

Posted something on ebay and waited a week for the auction to end and get paid. Had some old camera equipment laying around.

For my first affiliate product it only took about 4 days. Made a website in a few hours (on a Sunday night) with a quick website maker, and found a nickle keyword on adwords. Had 2 sales on a Wednesday afternoon. Low carb dieters niche .

Making a quick dollar or two is easy. Creating a long term sustainable business around an evergreen niche may take a little longer to monetize but is worth the wait.

took me 3 months back in 2002 I think, via SEO. It took me a month to learn IM and to research my niche and another month to build the site (was doing it part time + using frontpage) .

Made $300 in the third month.

But this is LOOONG ago... the internet was different then... yahoo was big and google small... and everyone was on myspace

I worked on a lot of stuff for a looooooooooong time before I realized I was trying to market to the world, I don't count the first few dollars as I had spent 20X what I made setting up stuff.

I finally went down to a super small niche and made 20k passively over 5 years from that site.

So all up I would say a year or two.

I wasted a lot of time and money trying this and that until I finally sat down and just wrote my fist WSO. Five plus years in fact (I did a LOT) of learning in that time but almost zero dollars.

My best advice is to take control of your business by crafting your own product to sell and launch it on the warrior forum as a WSO, with a dimes ale price of between $6 and $9 to start with. If your offer is good, your product solves a real problem that people have and you have an up sell on the back of it for a price under $10 also, you'll be making money this week.

Don't waste your time on anything else. Create a product and sell, sell, sell!

    All the best, Rob.

PS: my first WSO was selected for the Deal of the Day - so I know is strategy works, just do it!

It took me two months to make money when I started affiliate marketing. Now it's a nice little second income which keeps growing every month... Slowly but steady.

First $$ ($20) was earned within 3 weeks. This is when I learnt a method and put my action plan into practise. From there I slowly grew and improved my method and I now im making more with each passing month. Last month I earned $6000.

Actually it took me two weeks to had my site approved for Adsense. After two months I am already making like $2000-3000 a month

It took me a few days with AdSense. And then my Earnings exponentially popped up over a few months.

This Question gets asked a whole lot. I think it is important to acknowledge when you first make that initial revenue.

However, it is just a stepping stone in the grand picture

Hopefully , how long before you became self- sufficient with your Online endeavors is a more poignant question people will be asking.

My first exposure to the world of online marketing came in January 2009. My first dollar came in June 2010, when I rewrote a 4,000 word report for $40.

It was over a year for me, but that was my fault, because I got caught up in information overload.
Until I stopped, and set down, made a plan and began to execute it that's when I began to make some money.

About a week, I took some old Adult Method and put a twist on it. Made about 500 in a few days before my account got banned !
I did not get the money but it motivated me enough to start fresh and do things the right way !

Just over a month, messing with websites and Adsense. I took most of the time learning how to build websites and program. Once I realized what was possible I never looked back. It also has to do with focus and saying no to information overload.

It took me about a week to make my first sale on eBay back in 1997 or so when they first changed from AW to eBay. As far as my own website, probably on the order of a couple weeks as i was selling niche stuff where the market was small, and I was starting to get known.

Didn't take that long in the golden adsense days. It was as easy as finding a high CPC keyword and publishing a static page with it.

The first dollar I made quickly, probably within a week or two of getting started. I made it writing articles for one of the many article farms that were around at the time. I don't recommend that method for anyone who's serious about making money online, though. Most people are much better off writing for themselves.

The first thousand came a lot slower...Took a year or so before I hit my first thousand. That came from a combination of Adsense, the Amazon affiliate program and Kindle books.

    It took 4 months.

I was promoting a work-from-home program called My-Data-Team through Paydotcom - an affiliate network founded by veteran marketer Mike Filsaime.

I was using Google Adword and made about $400.

    That was before Google Slap.

Since then I focused on free methods like article marketing, blogging, classified advertising, documents sharing, press releases, social bookmarking and video marketing.

It all depends on the niche and the traffic your site is generating. You can also earn through Youtube Videos. Gave credit back to your site and the ad network there will automatically serve for you better and you can earn more.

lol, I got started a little over five years ago online and I didn't know what I was doing and I made a little over 400 bucks in around 5 hours. I never slowed down since.

I did that with adsense and ppv traffic. Didn't know anything about setting budgets and all of that good stuff and went through my 20 bucks but had over $400 in the account.

I cashed out a little over $18,000 in four months before my account got terminated because google changed their terms of service and I didn't follow it.

I was due a deposit for a little over 12 thousand for one month. lol all that money got returned to the advertisers. People said I should have sued but again that is the wrong mindset for success. I should have followed their terms of service change is what I should have done.

In the old days there were programs that "rented" your desktop to
run banner ads and they paid you for clicking the ads. I don't know
how long it took to make the first $1, maybe a week. Also made
money from Epinoins.com where you were paid to write reviews.

That was in back 1999 I think, when the first check came in the
    mail.

    Great question!

I want to share a unique perspective.

I earned my first $10K online within three months by leveraging my skills to partner with an experienced marketer. HOWEVER, though I earned $10K, I felt no sense of fulfillment as I did not enjoy what I was contributing.

When I identified my passions, and what skills I have to give that are unique to me, and then focused on giving them by leveraging different online channels, that's when I experienced a deep sense of significance and joy, and that's worth more to me than money.
