I'm starting a new blog in the self-improvement field, I'm doing all original content on each blog posts (2-3 long, detailed posts a week). Once I post my article...then what?

What are the TOP 3 things you recommend I do to drive traffic to my blog from that point?

The best three ways I get traffic to my blogs and forums is:

1. Being active in that niche:
I spend a couple of hours each week on related forums, blogs and social networking sites. I answer questions, help other people and add to ongoing discussions.

2. Writing stuff that other people want to link to.
I try to write posts that people in my niche want to read....and other bloggers in my niche want to link to.

3. Use good keywords.
Some of my sites get a lot of heavy search engine traffic because I use good keywords.

1. Make sure your blog is set to permalinks.

If you don't know - This means every post you create will create a new page in your blog using the title of your blog post.

If you are using Wordpress - it is defaulted to a number, and as such your post will be called a number. This will limit your blog's presence in the search engines.

You can change this setting in the Wordpress interface.


2. Do some keyword research
Make sure each title of your blog uses keywords that people are looking for.


3. Create backlinks
Create backlinks to your blog and to individual posts of your blog. This could mean posting comments on other people's blogs and participating in your niche. Leave a good quality comment and a link to your site.


4. Join MyBlogLog.
As soon as you join - you should get visitors because usually your blog will be posted on the front page of MyBlogLog and this recieves significant traffic.

Method #1)). Hire a good writer(s) to write 25 - 100 articles for you every month. Then hire someone to submit them for you to "trickle" them over a 20-30-or-60 day period to the top 3 to 10 article directories. Do your keyword research first and create the titles to your articles and then give them to your writer or VA. Do NOT stop doing this until you achieve the traffic you want.

Then hire someone else to start giving your articles some link juice. And/or put these articles on your own blog and have them do the same thing.

Method #2)) BUY traffic.

Method #3)) FREE publicity. Think press releases, getting on radio stations as a guest, offering to write columns for other blogs, etc.

you are moving in the right direction, once you have put in the new content, bookmark it, add RSS feed. release a few new press releases also, do some article marketing, after you have posted the article, again bookmark it. these all efforts will help you in getting good results for your blog

I know it seems like I'm stating the obvious, but write really good quality content that gives readers value, don't just fill it with junk.

look up yaro starak and pillar articles, and get free copy of his blog profits blueprints from his site, it's full of good stuff and subsribe to his blog.

Write lists, readers love them!

Lists that include good links are very popular, once you have a few of these put them in a pdf that readers can download from your site, of course you've added some affiliate links in as well and now you have the start of your own email list.

Post a teaser occaisionally, just a short post that says something dramatic like : OMIGOD YOU WONT BELIVE THIS!... something fantastic (terrible etc) just happened! will post more as soon as I can.

then ping it and go back and post in a few hours, it needs to be good or they'll feel duped, give them a freebie for coming back. (building your list again!)

join blog networks and visit other blogs, offer to host a blog carnival.

make sure you have a good ping list.

check the search terms that people have used to find your blog and create posts around them. I do this every few weeks and it really is effective.

I once was very bored and wrote a stupid post about a meal I'd cooked and posted a photo. ( I'm not a good cook!)

in the title i inadvertently used a popular keyword that bought a LOT of traffic to my blog, so I now regularly do similar posts, all using this keyword in the title . At the bottom of those posts I add links to the other ones and soon there will be enough of them for another freebie pdf for readers.

but if you don't check to see what they are searching for you won't find these 'hidden gems' of keywords.

This might get you some traffic in the short run but it will probably hurt you in the long run. If you talked bad about other bloggers they are not going to want to link to you.

My top recommendation for getting traffic long term is to build an e-mail list. If someone is on your e-mail list then it's easy for that person to become a repeat visitor to your website.

Every time you post new content to your blog or website you can e-mail your readership about this new content.
