Choose something that you're interested in/passionate about. That's "simple" advice (and you've probably heard it before) however it makes a World of difference IMO.

Why? Because you will be much, much more likely to see it through until you're making good money. It will be more "fun." And, you will have a greater sense of accomplishment.

I chose my Blog topic because it's something I'm interested in and something I know many people are also interested in.

      This.

Pick something you're interested in that also gives you the opportunity to solve a problem for other people.

Picking niches seems more daunting than it actually is. The rule I always follow is....

    Pick 3 niches...
investigate whats more popular I.e use Google keyword tool
draw up an action plan I.e how are you going to make money etc...
    Stay consistent and give value.
only upscale when you nake regular income.

I can give you a more detailed information about this if you want.

Just chiming in. IMPO, they are all too competitive for a beginner without a plan and someone or something to guide you from A to Z.

Again, find out what is selling and drive traffic to your offers. That is just basic information, but it really helps to make a plan.

        Rob,

What if you didn't "pick a niche" like so many failing marketers do?

Instead, what if you discovered and created a niche that was based on some advantage in the marketplace that you personally have that others trying to compete with you don't have?

What if the niche you created was a little different than every other marketer's niche?

Would that give you an advantage? Would that allow you to blaze your own trail and build your own success on something that you enjoyed doing every day?

Inventory your skills, education, past training, your passions, your talents, your life experiences and those things that you do well - not perfectly - but those things that others would say you're very good at doing.

Once you see what you can do - then you are in a position to see if others would like to learn or do the same type of things. You can do your research online to see what type of demand there might be in the marketplace by others that you can satisfy with what you know or have done.

You see, you're not "picking a niche" from the things that others are doing.

You're discovering what you might give to others from those things that give you an advantage in the marketplace. You are focusing on what you do well, rather than "picking" to compete in already crowded markets.

There is a huge difference in creating your own niche and "picking" to play in someone else's niche where your competitor's are already established and most certainly have the edge over you.

I hope you see what I'm trying to say.

Think about the items you spend money on regularly. If you're buying them, there's other people out there that are interested in them as well. Now, see if you can determine where those people are hanging out at online. If you're able to find those people and there's a way to advertise to them, you've got a niche you can make money from.

Start small and test the waters to see if you can turn a profit. If you can, scale your efforts up slowly. If you find a hungry market and are able to provide them with products they want to buy, the sky's the limit.

Also, traffic. Find out where the most successful niche markets are sourcing their own traffic and how they are driving traffic to the offers.

Mars is the next big thing.

A huge (one way, suicidal) trip is planned in the near future. It was recently in the news for some reason. It is the reddest planet visible to the naked eye.

Several recent Hollywood movies were set on Mars (and not the moon, which by the way, is NOT a hot niche).

The Mars rover is getting media attention like nobody's business and is almost a celebrity itself.

Plus Mars is the God of War and is currently having a heyday in Ukraine and the Middle East.

If you want a hot niche pick Mars.

Actually, that is a good future niche that a few of the savy marketers I work for are gearing up for the long term.

Pick a niche whose language you already speak. If you know who they are, what they read, how they spend their time and *what they like to spend money on* then you will have a much easier time communicating with them in a way that is genuine and believable.

My greatest business successes were launched in niches that I had spent considerable time working in first (either as an employee or a slave).

    Know thy market.

Good advise. Also, if you don't know the niche well enough to do it yourself, hire someone that does.. become an entrepreneur.

I'll second the "choose something your passionate about" cliche statement. It's as true as it gets.

Start with something you have learned, or learn something you want too and then teach it.

Have you recently stopped smoking? Create a guide/course
Have you recently lost weight? Create a guide/course
Have you recently learned how to build a website? Create a guide/course

Like you will have heard a thousand times, something you have an interest in is very important.
Building a product can be fun and rewarding if you like what your talking about.

    Hope this helps.

    P.S what is IMO?

Whatever niche you do, its important to have an action plan. It could be as competitive as fitness and make money online or as specific as nails for coffins and if you dont know how to build your list properly and get targeted traffic, you are doomed from the start.

I go where the money is, which generally correlates with where the good products are being produced and sold and the traffic is flowing.

For a newbie I recommend a low comp. niche to start. Most people don't listen but I believe they fail at a much higher rate then people who choose low comp. niches.

People who understand it takes time and have a realistic mindset, quickly see the sense it makes to learn to walk before trying to run with veterans.

BTW - I'm one of those Mars' fans and I think it is an "I wish I would have thought of that" idea!

    How did you pick yours
First you pick a market and then you preferably pick a niche. Eg. Dating is your market and latin americans looking for other latins. If I were you I would sit down and think of what you are good at and try to build something around that. If you just want follow the line then as others will point out diet, muscle, skin care, MMO are the big ones. Are you planning on building a list or just sending traffic to CPA offers.

To ask just a vague question you should really provide more info about what you have done so far and if you have any experience. You only have 5 posts so I am guessing you are new but if you cannot put in the time to put together a well worded OP then I don't think people will really want to help you.
