Elance cancelation request from freelancer

Hi warriors,

I need some help.

I posted a job on elance and am in the following situation:

-Before awarding the job to the writer, I noticed him that he was the appropriate person for it to get a confirmation from him.
-The deadline he set up was 1 week and after 4 days he hadn't sent any part of the work but told me he'd do so the next day and didn't
-Today, the day of the deadline, I asked him for the work
-He sent me a cancellation request
-I explained I couldn't afford to accept it since I'd have to post the job again, wait various days to get requests, go through them and wait for the new deadline
-Told him I wanted to work things out
-Offered more time
-He didn't accept

This guy really screwed up my project. If I accept the cancellation, elance will think I have no problem with it, right? And I won't be able to rate him? To do so, should I dispute?

I know it is a business he has on elance and giving him a negative rating will affect him but I just can't give him a positive one. He should have noticed me before that he wouldn't be able to do the job. I was polite, patient, even provided resources to help him do the job and open to questions or to provide any help he may need.

Contact elance and explain your story and ask them what you should do.

Explaining your situation to Elance right away should fix the problem. Also don't worry about giving a negative rating as a last resort if you gave a worker a fair chance to come through and they screwed up. That's why so many freelances get away slacking because people don't bother to expose them publicly.

This is not the elance help desk - and don't expect elance to solve this for you.

You can't make someone work for you. If a job is to take one week why demand work after 4 days unless that was the prior agreement. The writer should not be promising work if he's not doing it. Bad story all around.

Cancel that project - leave a negative rating - and find another writer.

Didn't ask for the complete job after 4 days, only when to expect progress.

Yes, I'll cancel and leave negative feedback. I already made everything to work things out and this freelancer doesn't give a sh*t about it.

        Thanks for answers guys.

Unless Elance has changed its policies, I don't believe you can leave feedback for a cancelled job. The option to leave feedback appears only after you've paid the client and marked the job as "complete".

Sorry this happened to you. I do believe, though, that if a person cancels jobs too many times, Elance will suspend his or her account.

I would contact Elance and explain the situation to them, and I would certainly leave a negative comment about him

    These things happen on Elance.

As long as money has not exchanged hands, I'm almost sure that you can't leave a negative rating. The same can be said if a full refund has been processed.
