How to test which product/domain name is best?..

Hi Warriors!

Do anyone have any advice for the best way to test a new product/domain name?

My product is an information product and I want to know what domain name (and also product name) will convert best.

Any ideas?

*notes:

- I have an email list in the niche of my new product if that helps also
- I already have a small list of domain names available (which would also be the product name) ...but I have not purchased any of them yet b/c ideally I just want to purchase the winning product/domain name.

If I were you, I would simply email your list in the niche, present them with your top 3-5 choices, and ask them which name they would respond to best.

I wouldn't worry that you hadn't registered the name yet. I don't think anyone is going to steal your idea. They don't have a product ready to sell that will fit the names you've chosen.

    I think you're maybe over-thinking this.

...Great suggestions; however, I know my competitors are on my lists too.

The only thing I can think of is if you are concerned about your competitors getting your domain name before you is to either get a solo and send the clicks to a wufoo questionnaire asking about your domain ideas.

The other option would be to send a wufoo questionnaire to your list asking them what kind of domain they like and actually have them type it in. That way nobody can see what the answers are but you.

To be honest though, I wouldn't be too worried about about the domain etc. As long as it's a subject your subscribers are interested in then there should be no problems.

    Good question, TheWebGuy.

If I'm developing a website in a familiar niche, I know which domain name to use. Instinct. Knowledge. Experience. And it doesn't always boil down to a keyword domain. A lot of the time, I just know which will convert best (well, which I THINK will do so).

When it comes to a new niche, I test domain name choices on the potential audience, I look at search terms, I look at relevant content and examine wording, and - most importantly - I examine competing landing pages and look at the words used. After doing all this, you tend to have a good feel for what words trigger the right reactions.
