Many a times when there are server problems or any of your old pages not working then you see the 404 page. Sometimes Google and other search engines cache your old links and visitors reach your website and they see a 404 page. They close and go away. There is a visitor lost.

Now 404 pages are not only the ones, there are a few others like it. In some websites 404 pages are the most viewed ones, so why not try to make some money out of it. Put up your Squeeze page there, so you can benefit out of otherwise wasted resource.

To get an idea of how many hits you get on your 404 pages, try this step.

If you are using a Linux based hosting, go to your c-panel, click on "Web/FTP Stats" then open" Awstats" and at the very bottom of the page you will see "Pages not found" link. Click on that and you will see "Required but not found URLs (HTTP code 404)" it will tell you exactly the number of pages and the no of hits to those pages, total it and see for yourself, how many hits you could have converted to subscribers and eventually sales. The older your website is; your 404 or error page hits will be that much more.

To put up your squeeze page as your error pages, you need to save "squeeze page" html file with a "shtml" extension and upload it to the "public_html" which is your root web folder for your website.

The simplest option is to drag and drop the html file into a text pad and save it with a .shtml extension.

Don't just stick to the 404 page; there are a few others that you can create:

Create these 5 files total to upload.
400.shtml
401.shtml
403.shtml
404.shtml
500.shtml

You can see an example here:

This is a powerful but simple technique. Anybody typing a wrong page name on your site will see your offer. Check this link http://www.e-guru.in/56 try using any extension page after the main URL and see yourself.

I'm using a onetime offer I'm using on my site there, but the principle is the same for the squeeze page.

Here again; you have to be creative and offer your visitors something really informative with a good offer to get their attention, so that they subscribe.

The possibilities are endless what you could achieve with these error pages. It will boost your websites efficiency to make money by at least 25% if you do it right.
